    old old GM starter breakdown price

    Understand I am not advocating breaking them down or not. simply giving you some numbers so you can decide. How ever they are easy and quick. 10 min tops with simple tools.

    Total weight 10 lb 3 oz Whole as HI $1.51

    9 lb#1 heavy prepaired Iron @ .15 = $1.35

    6 oz Cast alu @.50 = .187

    1 lb 13 oz #1 cop. @ $3.00 = $5.44

    total =$6 97

    I replaced my starter not to long ago. The parts store charged a $18.00 core charge.
    Before I took the old starter back to them I took the solenoid off of it. It had a fair amount of copper in it.
