Especially the older ones!
I have opened about 10 so far and 2 were old ones and one of them was a thick copper coating and in the other was a thick brass coating.
Just take a hammer to one and it comes apart like nothing.
Brass from one weighted a bit more than 1kg so around here that would fetch me £2.40 ($3.84) per charger.

just went out in the shed and popped one open, thin aluminium just like you sometimes get on the inside of a monitor. 3 mini aluminium heatsinks, a couple of ferrite rings with copper wrapped round them. this was from a Dell laptop

I have got some aluminium also but mainly brass and copper for me!
What do you do with your ferrite?

Here is what a few small chargers look like inside,, after you break off the plastic cover. I used the bench vice to squeeze them and they would pop open like a ripe grape.
Here it is by itself,, Just squeeze them on the center seam where their glued together.

doesn't seem like many goodies in there, compared to the work to remove them?/

Yes, these had a thin copper sheet around them. There is some wire, a copper coil or two, good sized transformer, alum. heat sink and the cord. No real work involved when you use a vise, takes about a minute, worth it to me. Maybe not for everybody.Did some of yours have like covers around then made of copper/brass aswell?

There is only 2 tools needed really. A hammer to smash the plastic casing and the unscrew about 4 screws inside and that is it. Get copper of the coils can be done by hitting the ring with a hammer and then peeling the copper off.

My wife and I have gone through a few because of our dogs. Thanks for telling me this, I will open them tomorrow.

Those are power boards and sell for a little more than low grade.

Heh..to much work.. For me it's a quick hit or two with the hammer on the sides an that sucker is open. Takes no time at all.
Sirscrapalot - finds pleasure in whacking things with a heavy hammer.
