I have used a similar method.

I use a sawzall and cut a hole in the sidewall and run it down to the rim on both sides then cut it through the tread. Once at the bead I just use a cold chisel and BFH and cut the rest of the way. those steel bands can eat most blades I have tried. I did around 10 tires that way in about 4 hours. not the most effective means but it works when we dont have access to more efficient means. And yes, this will destroy the rims. Haven't tried an aluminum rim but it works good for steel rims.

Sawzall works really well with the heavy steel blades. As for a simi tire I can break one down by hand before most people can cut the bead on them. But then again I worked at a truck stop for a few years. And the PB Blaster(better than wd 40) makes just a big fire ball as ether. We did have a cheeta that we used if it would hold air. But that was not often. My local yard used to use their loader to break the beads for me then a couple tire irons and I was in business. Now I'm too old and broken for that stuff. I use a saw and cut throught the beads and part way up side wall. Of corse my yard would let me through a few in their short steel pile with just taking a utility knife around the bead and leaving about 1/2 inch of rubber on. I can get by with about 15 or so per truck load
