3 min tire removal !!!!!

waiting for my new scale so I cut up a little iron today and decided to try an Idea I had about removing old tires from rims.

tools angle grinder 6" blade or bigger
hammer or small sledge
tire spoons 2 ea. or pry bars or whatever

lay the tire flat on the ground start where the tire meets the rim cut straight down through the rim and the bead of the tire until you cut all the way through the bead. it is not necessary to cut through the tread of the tire

make 2, 3 or 4 cuts on each side of the tire and rim. (depends on how strong you are . the more cuts the easier the tire is to pull off, however the more cuts you make the more blade you will use.)

smack the tire close to the rim on the bead, use spoons if necessary, but they usually arnt unless the tire and rim is extremly old.

pull the tire off the rim.

in my condition I can do 12 to15 per hr. some one in decient shape should be able to do 20 or more per hr.

Does this save a nice aluminum rim for resale?

since you start cutting where the bead and rim meet, what do you think ? we are talking scrap iron rims not resale.

when still mounted on a car/axle.. I will pinch the rim with our excavator bending it.. then take the grapple and pinch the tire and give it a flip and the tire comes right off lol.. within seconds you are done!!

Use a sawzall and cut the tire of the rims takes about 5 minutes though.

Or better yet buy a manual tire changer i have one and you can do a tire if your fast in under 2 minutes.

excuse me for saying so but, guys, the post was ment to help those who dont have an EXCAVATOR, a bulldozer, crusher, tank or even a tire machine. it was ment to help those who dont.

I am 68, not in good health, I am starting over from 0, and I do mean 0. I refer to people like me as SIS scrappers, suplamental income/survival scrapers. there are probably more of us then there are of you.

most of my posts are intended to help all but particularly those in my position. and one day (hopefully Never) you may find your self in this position. Im glad you read them and hope you enjoy them. but you may want to remember them, just in case, one day you find your self with out an excivator, or schreder back hoe, or what ever, I did. just my .02

Your tire machine what size of air compressor do you have?

This is how I do all my tires, I can beat a manual tire changer this way. Been doing it this way for probably the last 10 months.

I guess im just lucky. I have a buddy who owns a midas shop and lets me use his tire machine. But when I worked for the tire store 10 years ago I use to do semi tires. they dont fit on the machine. Done totaly by hand with the spoons. Man was it fun to ether the beed on.

We used to have a portable bead blaster, you dont have to worry about the big fireball that way, lol.

i drop my van on top of the tire to break the bead and then hit it with the pry bar. i sometimes do use my sawzall or grinder to remove. its ok but u sometimes get hot rubber shot at you

either way scrap the ladder. I think you are right on the hole thing now that I reread it.
