I bought a gaylord of electric motors.

I bought a gaylord full of huge industrial motors. I built a machine to pull the copper out of the stator with ease. I have an angle grinder to get the stator out of the case. Tonight after I get out of the scrapyard I will be working on these motors to see if there is any money to be made.

Are they 3 phase motors?

I would be interested in a video of this machine you built. Or at least some pictures.

I will get pictures Monday when the shop opens. I bought a hand crank winch at Harbour Freight. I had a few vises. I got a 2*12 plank of wood. Drilled holes and mounted both machines. Once we cut the part with the copper out of the motor and removed the inner parts as well we put the stator(?) in the vise with the copper towards the winch. We used a side angle grinder to cut the copper from one end. The other end of copper is facing the winch. Hooked the winch to a winding of copper and started cranking. Pulled the copper out. On the huge industrial motors the copper is hard to pull out. Smaller industrial size motors aren't so bad. Washing machine motors are easy. I will get pics and do any math I can or what you request.

I'm so stressed out over this experiment. I paid $1300 for this gaylord. I hope that I don't lose money. There's a lot of steel, very little aluminum and I still don't know how much copper. If I have 3000 in steel how much would I need in copper?

I think about 400 pounds depending on what your yard pays and what they grade it at.

Abot how many lbs of copper are you getting per motor? I think you will cover your costs and make some money on this!
