I'm hoping to get about $600 over what I paid for this. It's been a bit of work. If it pays what I am hoping I plan to buy a wire stripper and get a box of #1 insulated next.

I calculated wrong. I only had to pay $1119 for the gaylord. The was a lot of motors that I could not strip because there was no copper inside. 773 pounds out of 3797 pounds altogether. I am thinking that I will get about $1600 total when I cash out. $500 in a week.
Did you come up with final numbers on your gaylord of motors?
Not yet. Should have them finished today though. I'm praying. I'm going out of my flipping mind with stress.
I walked away with $630. I could have made more money but there was 773 pounds of motors that we couldn't get apart. I could do a gaylord each week I think.
Oh Happy Days
Nice profit!! Good job copperhead!
Are you going to do a gaylord of insulated wire next?
congratulations copperhead.
I'm going to experiment with Romex for a bit. I want to see how much profit per pound there is in that.
How many man hours were involved in the entire operation? Thanks for sharing with us, Mike.

Now go beat the copper out of something, Miked
Thank You copperhead you truly are an inspiration.
51 total.
nice post thanks
Now onto my next expedition. Stripping Romex wire. I have a piece of Romex that weighs 11 pounds. I am going to use my stopwatch to see how long it takes me to strip it at a normal watching tv, drinking soda, peeing and taking the dogs out to pee. Depending on the price I pay for the wire and what I sell it for I am going to see what I could earn in a day working eight hours as well as how much I would have to strip to equal one day at work earning nine bucks an hour. I will start a new thread when I start the 11 pounds of Romex.
Stripping romex when it's cold sucks. Without a good table to get the proper angle with the razor blade sucks. Constant distraction sucks. If I were going to do this on a regular basis I would only do it with a machine whether manual or electric.
I use a board that is about 3 ft long that I clamp to a table or work surface with a quick clamp. On one end of the board there is a eye hook screwed in that I thread the wire thru to help straighten it out before it gets to me on the other end. You can alternate from standing or sitting depending comfort level.
Good job experimenting with different loads and keeping the forum updated...best of luck.

When it's cold everything takes so much more time and effort. It's -25 farinheit outside at my house. I'm not stripping wire today. Got some home improving to do that I've been putting off. I heat my house with firewood that I cut myself during warm weather. Keeps the house toasty and my cost is my own labour, gas and oil for my chaisaw and fuel for my old pickup. We've got dry dead pine everwhere here thanks to the pine beetle that kills them. Keep warm everyone.
Congrats on the gaylord of motor venture.
I have a question, the strators and the rotors, do they go as shred/tin or as unprepped iron or something else?
Thanks.
