Most of them are brass except for some shotgun shells. My yard buys them as shell brass.
Yup and a gun range are full of them all over the ground =)
Yay but some ranges recycle or sell the brass...next time I go shooting I'll remember: money!!!
Some are brass, some aluminum and some steel with a brass coating. Pull the steel with a magnet. The silver colored ones can be nickel plated brass or aluminum, you should be able to tell the difference in hand easily. The common types .223, 9mm, 40 S&W pretty much sell for scrap prices, the uncommon types can sell for much more than scrap, but that means you have to separate and clean them.

Yep, some of the larger calibers are worth more selling as casings. There are target shooters and hunters that reload their own ammo and finding good casings at decent prices are hard.
Before anybody starts cleaning up the shooting ranges, you had better ask for permission first. Even though its on the floor and considered garbage, it is considered steeling if you take them without permission.

Hmm I was thinking more like a CL ad for wanted. Northern nj=no ranges, other than stoves...

They have auctions for anything related to guns, even the brass. I've never seen an alum. casing, wouldn't that blow up??
And yes Mick, I posted the link again, lol The other one is buried somewhere. I have some that look silver, or maybe silver plated brass. What was Lone Rangers bullets??

Alright thanks for the advice guys!
Be careful some yards do not accept shells. Federal law that you cannot export bullet shells. Just a heads up.
Most shells are brass, some Chinese army etc ammo is steel shelled & the silver shells are nickel plated.
I'd try & make something out of them, like necklaces & stuff, theres good money doing that.
I sold 150 bullet shell pipes for NZ $400 about 3 weeks ago.
Have orders for another 500+.
