Okay, so behind my grandpa's house in the marsh is an old engine block on a wrecked boat. I'm trying to think of a way to get it out of there.
It's too far back to take my truck without it getting stuck. So, I'm kind of stumped.
Any ideas? :confused:

If its a smallblock v8 it probably weighs about 300lbs at the most. Lever it onto a car hood or sheet of plywood and skid it out.
Yep skid it out and use a winch.....

I don't have a winch though. D: And I don't have the money for one either. Sliding it out is probably the best way to do it right now! Thanks!

I say, DO IT, this is a real good time to learn what works. Don't give up. Keep asking for idea's and trying your own.
1st....How far from stable ground?
2nd...How big is it? (The Block!!!!!)

Oh, no. I decided from the second I saw it I was getting in out of there one way or another! It's about a hundred feet or so from stable ground and it's a small block. I think it's a 350. There was also a pretty big drum and some other metal parts to the boat laying around too.

100' is not very far. So lets start with the weight...a 350 fully dressed will clock in about 575 lbs. Stripped about 180 lbs.
I would get 3 2x10x12' boards and nail 4 2x4x48" board to them and make sort of a sled with them. Strap the block near the end of the sled and pull with a rope from the other end. Making it that long and putting the block near the rear will help keep the nose up so you can pull it out. Also 48 wide will help with stability.

Would a plastic type snow sled work or do you think thats too heavy for it? if your near waterways maybe there are some floats lying around you could use under the sled

I don't have any pics right now. I think getting it out wouldn't be as much trouble as actually getting it in the truck. I don't have a trailer, so I can't just slide it onto that.

And there's a creek next to it, but it doesn't go anywhere close by.

A pallet with a piece of plywood nailed to it might work in a pinch, and if you need to chain it out just remove a fairly long bolt and put it thru one of the end links of chain and screw it back in and tighten. Might need a washer. A comealong, or $60 electric Winch from Walmart, and pull the whole boat out! scrap the engine and sell the hull on Craigslist!

Just get a chain and put the truck in drive, No need for a winch but it would be helpful, Just use your trailer hitch for a spot to hook the chain.
