just broke down 4 50lb a/c compressors 58 min. and It took about 30 min to figgure out the first one. to maximixe time and $ I just cut the copper bonnets off , will punch out the stator later. yeald was 14 lbs of # 2 at $3.25 + 85 lb #1 steal at .115 =$54.27 gross per hr X 5 hrs = $271.75_ cost of comps $25, fuel ect still gotta be worth $200 a day.
Were they rotary, scroll or piston?

I like the rotaries, seems like the only ones I've found aluminum windings in are the pistons.

olddude, there you go, amazing us again..one day you don't feel like going outside, the next day you break down a gazillion motors !! I broke down 1 computer today. Rainy day in GA.

hmmm never thought of that. what I was doing is to see just how much I could maximise time when scrap is plentifull. I probably saved 1 hr by cutting the bonnets off rather then punching out the copper, figgure I woud put those aside and punch them in leaner times. I have a guy now bringing me 10-20 compressors 2-3 times a week.
Are they all a/c compressors?

un fortunately not, some are freeze/ refer. but I picked the 4 biggist today for this experment.

How are you cutting the compressors up?

first I use the angle grinder and cut off all the perifials. I lay them on the bench on their sides and burn a hole in the top corner with the torch roll them over and cut a hole in the bottom top corner to let the oil drain. buy the time I reached #4, #1 was ready. I cut a line arround the compressor with the torch just about an inch below the weld, this position makes easy access to the springs. I pull off the top and hit the springs with the torch, do the bolts with the air wrench and line the stators up and go down the line cutting off only the bonets of copper with a 7 in wheel.
