    PTAC compressors

Today's project was breaking down rotary compressors from hotel PTACs. Had 10 compressors with a total weight of 233 pounds. Took a little less than an hour start to finish. Ended up with 24 pounds of windings (all copper), 2 pounds of dirty copper, 4 pounds of oil and 200 pounds of shred. Works out to about 37 cents a pound at today's prices or about 8.50 a compressor. Makes it easier to bid on them when I have a rough Idea of what all the components are worth and the time involved in tearing them down.

    Good numbers to know Joe.

At 23 pounds on average these are pretty small, not a bad profit!

They started out small but got heavier every time I moved them! I'm slowly building a data base on the yields of different kinds and sizes of compressors. That way when people offer to sell me compressors I can make a fair offer.
