scrappers taking tv's and leaving the back part of the case?

Some scrappers in my area are kicking off the back plastic shells of tv's leaving them on the curb and taking the rest with them. I don't get it.Has someone seen this and could you tell me what the point would be? It just looks bad. Gives curb shoppers a really bad name. I am just going to assume they don't discharge them, realize the dangers of handling the unprotected exposed cables and tube, or recycle the tubes properly.

Maybe they're checking to see if they have been stripped already.

My exact sentiment. I guess my biggest concern is how do they recycle the tube then? No one wants them with the cover off.

You can fit more tvs in your vehicle with the backs off. If you do this right theres nothing wrong with it. i have to do this with the larger tvs to fit in my little civic, but i got screw drivers for it and place the plastic right were the tv was.

I see your point about space Dunemaul. How do you recycle a tube that us exposed. The stem sticking out unprotected causes several issues.

Im lucky enough that my city takes the CRT tubes no cover needed. I just go out and hand the garbage men a yoke, they are not dumb time and time again i see the guy on the back of the truck using the crusher to harvest copper from the tvs.

Well that makes life easy for you then Dunemaul. And grey truck. I made the mistake of taking a tv from an attempted tv basher. It looked liked they tried to punch a hole and take the yoke but were unsuccessful. I saw the tv with the whole checked to see if it was gutted. I took it. Being it was a little icy out the tv slid and bashed apart do to the weakens shell. I know am stuck with just a tube. Any ideas?

Call your dump Russell, ask them about tubes. I'm sure they will be able to direct you where to go.

Thank you Hoss. I turned in 3 @ a local retailer today. (No fee) for now I will keep going that route. People around here set them at the curb. I picked up 4 today alone. I have 12 others that are already stripped just from one month. 2 more to pick up tommorow through a referral.

They are probably removing the back to fit more in their vehicle. Then taking them back to remove yoke, degaussing wire and board then dumping in an alley somewhere. I notice it alot in Milwaukee. Nice to see another midwesterner on here even though your south of the border LOL.
