How about passing on the yoke and just taking the degaussing cable? I know it leaves money but may be worth it. So I don't get blowed up.

I'm sorry guys, but I just don't understand why you guys feel the need to break the vacuum. The yokes come of simply by undoing the 2 clamps (which are usually SS).
I'll also add that while the glass way well be leaded, it is also coated in lead, including the outside of many CRTs. If you don't believe me take a knife and scrape that black coating and see for your selves. Just a reminder that lead is absorbed through the skin so use gloves when handling those tubes.

I don't break the vac seal. To reiterate this wasn't about yoke removal either. The question was implosion. The contradictionin in peoples advice whether to break or not break the stem for pressure release, and if it was safer than leaving the vacuum intact for handling purposes.

devo not all yokes are held on by clamps. and i would never pass on a yoke

There is no pressure to release. The CRT is a vacuum. All the pressure is on the outside of the tube, trying to get in.
As there is a question mark over a health issue, why bother doing something you don't need to and that has no benefit if it might put your health at risk?

So there is no danger from not evacuating the tube then? I guess ill just get a bomb defusing outfit and dismantle away.

I've never seen a tv or crt that did not have two ss clamps holding the yoke on. I've broke down 100's of tv's and crt's, broken 100's of tube and never seen one blow up. No need to brake them though. I live in Fl and have been fishing all my life using lead weights, a lot of older telephones have pig peices of lead in them I don't have cancer yet. Just my $.02
