On the power supplys for later model computers, on the power cables, there's a thin black plastic plug.
Its got Gold plated contact tips inside it.
The plug often goes 'inline' on the power leads, like its not right at the end of the cables. There might be two or three on the same set of wires.
You can pop the back off the plug and rip the individual power wires out as they are pressed into the end of the actual pins of the plug.

Whatsa name for these plugs? What are they classed as?

I have just been ripping them off the cables, then cutting thru the plug so it cuts loose the Gold plated bits, then putting them in a jar with other such plated pins and stuff.
And chucking away the rest of the plug.

You should take one of pic #2 to your yard and see if they will take it as a motor as is, you'd be gaining some extra weight from the steel, probably 2-3 times as much as shred, with less work

    Ok.. prepare your bullets!

Phone cord end.. look like gold- save em? Can they go in with cord ends of PC's?
Also How about USB ends? Same deal? I see a golden hue.

Best to ask now- then have to sort a bucket later!

Yes the ends on phone and USB cords are gold plated. I use to cut them off and put them in with any gold pin connectors I got out of PC's. That was when you could sell them for 1.50 a pound. Prices have dropped so much on gold pin connectors I don't cut them off anymore. Most of the copper wire I get is considered #3 insulated and my local buyer takes it with the ends left on. If I were you I would check around and see how much you can sell gold connectors for. If you have a local buyer or will have to ship them. How much shipping cost are. Also check and see if you have a local buyer for insulated copper and if they will buy it with the ends on. And finally is it worth your time to sit and cut ends off.

I have to cut ends off my wire, I lose half the price per # if I have ends left on

Plus there is a buyer for the connector ends..couple of them..or several..but more then one!

I have a special "OMG IT"S GOLD!"™ bucket just for certain types of plated ends.

Sirscrapalot - An no..you never shall. The fudge machine is like Hoss an the tv...ok not really but still fun.

Ok well did some searching tonight.. I thought Green on One Side/Brown on the other boards were mid-grade
    Brown/Brown were low grade

Bummer.. Just got a bucket of Brown/Green Boards.. thought I did OK.. guess I'll get to stripping them for all their goodies?

Also in tearing apart stuff I see some differences (Just making some out-loud type notes here)

    So even a green/green board:
Some of them look densely packed with stuff.
Others seem sort of "thin" in their circuitry.. any difference in grade.

Example: I tore apart an old Cordless Phone- Board is densely packed.. gold tracings for certain
Tore apart a leap-frog little hand held game.. board looked sort of puny with circuits.

These have got to be different grades yes?

I'm gonna take a guess and say mid grade #1 and #2 like #1 cu and #2 cu

It's good to process the lower grade boards as a learning experience. You're eyes learn to spot the value items faster.

Just for the heck of it .... weigh up what you've salvaged off the boards and figure out the value of what you've harvested so far. You may find it's much more efficient not to break down boards.

Turn -N- Burn ? Limit yourself to only dismantling ? Get em' in and out of the shop as fast as possible ?

Yes sir. I never take a learning experience as an un-valuable lesson. This was good for me.. and I know next time.. if it ain't green on both sides.. gut and go!

I'm in a crunch because I have so much stuff I got from this storage unit, my garage is full, it has crept into my office. I have a CL bonanza right now of listings.. but until it sells I've got a small mountain of stuff.. and I'm looking to clear out all I can to alleviate that "overwhelmed" feeling!
