On the power supplys for later model computers, on the power cables, there's a thin black plastic plug.
Its got Gold plated contact tips inside it.
The plug often goes 'inline' on the power leads, like its not right at the end of the cables. There might be two or three on the same set of wires.
You can pop the back off the plug and rip the individual power wires out as they are pressed into the end of the actual pins of the plug.



Whatsa name for these plugs? What are they classed as?

I have just been ripping them off the cables, then cutting thru the plug so it cuts loose the Gold plated bits, then putting them in a jar with other such plated pins and stuff.
And chucking away the rest of the plug.

Yes on both.

Yes the ends on phone and USB cords are gold plated. I use to cut them off and put them in with any gold pin connectors I got out of PC's. That was when you could sell them for 1.50 a pound. Prices have dropped so much on gold pin connectors I don't cut them off anymore. Most of the copper wire I get is considered #3 insulated and my local buyer takes it with the ends left on. If I were you I would check around and see how much you can sell gold connectors for. If you have a local buyer or will have to ship them. How much shipping cost are. Also check and see if you have a local buyer for insulated copper and if they will buy it with the ends on. And finally is it worth your time to sit and cut ends off.

Plus there is a buyer for the connector ends..couple of them..or several..but more then one!

I have a special "OMG IT"S GOLD!"™ bucket just for certain types of plated ends.

Others seem sort of "thin" in their circuitry.. any difference in grade.

Example: I tore apart an old Cordless Phone- Board is densely packed.. gold tracings for certain
Tore apart a leap-frog little hand held game.. board looked sort of puny with circuits.

These have got to be different grades yes?

I'm gonna take a guess and say mid grade #1 and #2 like #1 cu and #2 cu

It's good to process the lower grade boards as a learning experience. You're eyes learn to spot the value items faster.

Just for the heck of it .... weigh up what you've salvaged off the boards and figure out the value of what you've harvested so far. You may find it's much more efficient not to break down boards.

Turn -N- Burn ? Limit yourself to only dismantling ? Get em' in and out of the shop as fast as possible ?
