    Smart Board Projector Question

A local opportunity to purchase 8 Smart Board Projectors (and the mounts), and 7 data input switches. Unknown working condition. Since they are projectors they are most likely older, I understand there may be a DLP chip (hopefully ceramic). But what I am really hoping is that I can cobble together one or two that still work and donate them to my daughter's school as they are woefully underfunded for this kind of stuff.

Anyone have any experience with these? I'm hoping that I can get for the min bid ($50) and worst case if none work I won't be out that much. Or just not worth the bother.

I do know since I graduated high school last year whenever one would start to act weird or not work the teachers would always comment how they are glad its not the bulb. the bulbs if working will possibly sell for more than he $50. then again im no expert and you should do more research but I would start with the bulbs. I think one told me once a brand new replacement bulb costs about $500 whether he was right or not I have no Idea.

We purchase laptop computers and many components for greater than scrap value. We offer a shipping reimbursement program.replies

I can't tell you much about Smart branded projectors, but I can tell you about the Smart Boards.

They basically are a giant touch screen for the teachers. They'll interface with any multimedia projector. The last school I picked up from used a combination of NEC, Epson, EIKI, and InFocus projectors, which all worked fine.

If these work, check the lamp hours. Most projectors will go for 2000-2500 hours on the lamp, but some can go longer. Most projectors will show you a percentage or estimated time left on the bulb.

As for the school that your daughter goes to, check out eBay. The off brand projectors can be very cheap sometimes. I sell my Epson and NEC models, but the stray Mitsubishi stays with me, because of the low resale value.

That might be a good place to check if this falls through.

I am not sure on the other parts, but the projectors will not get you there.
The "possible" 8 ceramic DLP chips should weigh in around 6.4 oz worth around $10 - $11
few lbs of cast AL "possible" some are plastic
    few lbs of steel
    oz or two of wire
    few lb's (2 maybe 3) of mid/high grade PCB
The tear downs on projectors for me were very time consuming.. the board with the chip is the last piece to come out in most cases.

And by most I mean the sledghammer has a way of speeding things up
There ain't nothing wrong with an honest days work. Anyone who says otherwise is a fool.- Old Man
