Repair Shop Connection - First Purchase

Wanted to share pics of the stuff I picked up this week from my new repair guy contact. If any of you were following the other post about buying eWaste, this guy and I got off to a rocky start. I was referring to him as "Mr. Arrogance". Now I have to concede that he really is not a bad guy after all. Plus he does know his stuff. I already learned a few things from him through our convos.

First load. Didn't take it all on day one because it was hot and we were carrying it up from an old, awkward basement.
There are 10 complete desktops. That tote on the left has a broken laptop, some mother boards, and other miscellaneous boards. Then there are two more mother boards in the center of photo bottom.

Next day, I went back for this which I have sorted for these pics:

Is there any value in the box of Windows software (upper left) ?

Now I need to figure out if I paid too much. It was our first transaction, so I guess there is something to be said for that.
I think I can probably sell some of it for more than scrap (like the NES top loader). I paid $80 for everything in these three pics.

Yesterday I also went to storage auctions. Didn't get a locker because it was mostly crap. I did give one of the guys that bought a unit $5 for these two towers though

Any input, good bad or otherwise is appreciated. Thanks, Cheryl

I have been noticing those RED boards in pictures around here and find them interesting looking as I have never seen RED boards before. What are they from?

Looks like you snagged up some nice gaming items in the lot.

I like it when I get loads like that with variety and odd curios and such.

I like the "junk drawer" lots with the many smalls and odd & ends also.

Me too on both the mixed lots and smalls. This guy told me that Walmart was selling computers with the red boards a couple years back and that these particular ones had a high failure rate.

red blue and so forth not always but mostly are lower grade foreign boards before the price hits and gold went down a lot of buyers had a whole separate sort pay grade for these at the same price there are now for all small socket boards. I find a lot of them in gateways

Thanks Army. I was thinking that the Gateway probably has many parts that I could sell. Not sure though without searching eBay.

Obviuosly, the CPU and Ram is somewhat better than average for what I've been seeing and I will try to sell those on their own. But I'm still very, very new at this and was hoping for inputs on what to keep whole for better than scrap prices.

I like colorful curios. The red boards catch my eye as they are different then what I'm used to seeing. I might have some in the computers I have around here. If not, I'm sure that I will end up with some of the odd colored boards if they are not worth much more then scrap or art.

I have always viewed most everything as arts & parts., even people.

you really need to check any colored boards...yes many of them or cheaper foreign (granted all board are technically foreign since we don't make them here in the US)....SOME are enthusiast boards (think gaming machines etc) that CAN have some value if the work. Just like SOME video cards are worth far more than scrap if working as well (high end NVIDIA cards for example....Quattro and Firepro cards are worth EVEN MORE)

you will do OK paying $80 for the 1st set IF you break it down...if those Playstations work, sell them....MORE $$$.

Some of those boards are low grade boards however (like .10/lb) that I see in your pic. You will be ok, but definitely look at what you get, along with the time to break down and see how much profit you have...you might need to be a bit lower next time...hard to say since I can see all the stuff.

windows 98 software might be worth a few bucks to someone on Ebay especiallu since it looks like it was unopened with a valid key...ie more than what you get to recycle LOL

Good 1st shot, but TRY hard to get stuff for free...some of that stuff is worth basically nothing (speakers have VERY little in hem..mostly shred)...same with the gun, remotes (i they work, you might can sell them for $5-10 each on Ebay...depends on model...but even $1 is more then they scrap value), and keyboards etc.

Work through it and LEARN what makes sense to break down, pay for etc....THIS IS WHERE YOU WILL LEARN MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE.
PROFIT is made when you BUY/ACQUIRE NOT when you sell

I think the playstations aren't worth reselling. That NES top loader on the other hand ... I just need to find the extra pieces parts to test it out.
I was told the Mac Book should work, but I'd need a ps to test and think it is pretty old (as far as Mac Books go).
Growler testers are selling on eBay. It's a heavy S.O.B. but they are going for 30 to 40 bucks. The boards on the bottom of the third pic are telecom I believe.
I also need to look into the plasma centrifuge thingy. I think reselling anything worth more than 20 on eBay will help me recover my costs, then the computer scrap becomes all profit. I really need to set up a proper work bench space if I'm going to do this kind of thing.

    If that wii works that's a easy $30-$40 on Craig's , that's a 50% return on investment right there . Good score

That Gateway is a score! I don't focus on CPUs, but that is likely a high value chip. I think you could sell the desktop as a whole for about $100 though. I think you did pretty well!

The lil grey box in the second pic (center, bottom) is an adjustable solder station. Just needs the solder iron that plugs into the side of it. I used to use one of those when I was doing my radio repair work. They are a reliable unit for being a cheaper one. Mine ran 11 hours daily 6 days a week for a few years with no hiccups, just a tip replacement or two. My spare I sold on Ebay for around 25 bucks,,,

Red boards were msi color of choice back in the day. Msi made some decent aftermarket boards for gamers and such. They are still in business, but most I see anymore are black.
