Office copier,printer,fax boards

The first picture has two boards that joined together the largest board has a couple of little chips with gold outline around the edge and then one big chip that I've never seen before and a couple sticks of memory and then the second picture has another board that I found deep in the machine as well as a hard drive. Can anybody help me identify any other chips other than the processors or the CPUs please.

I don't know what the big chip is and if I should pull any of them or just sell the boards. I don't know what the ones with the gold outline are. I'm just beginning and trying to read and learn as much as possible.

Those little blocks, with a stripe on them are mlcc's if I recall.

Now if you notice...I pointed out those 3 things without telling you why. So now my advice would be to search here on the forums, to find out what they are, an why you should remove them. I won't reinvent the wheel an say the same stuff that is out there in the archives. You'll find plenty of info on all three of those without ever leaving the forum. Others can chime in if they so wish on the other stuff on the boards. I was having a weak moment an figured I'd get you started.

While your looking those up, you'll likely stumble across plenty of other things you'll find you wanna keep an eye out for. Like tantalum.

My advice would be to get some boxes and start sorting your boards and read.

Get some boxes and put boards that are the same together and read.

Have you looked for a buyer yet? Locally or here on the SMF? Do that and read.

Don't depopulate any boards until you know what you have and if you can even sell the separate components......and read.

I don't depopulate boards. Some people do.

In the top photo the little board with the green and white can on it, with 'Lithium' written on it. Is a Lithium battery.
You will need to take that off before you sell the board.

The two sticks of 'memory', you take those off too and keep them with other memory sticks that you will find, and sell them as 'Gold fingered memory sticks'.

The 'chip with Gold edges' is actually a quartz crystal resonator. The Gold edge is the solder metal that holds its cap on.
That and everything else (but not the memory sticks or battery) should stay on the board. They look very pretty inside.
Then just save up similar boards till you have enough off them to sell.

Taking the battery off is important, its all to do with transport regulations.

i dont strip down my boards either...if you take all the eproms and ic's off its a medium grade or less board...tantalums being the exception...by the way..ive never heard if anyone that actually buys the mlcc's...any ideas anyone?

i think you have some black smd tantalums on the first board with the memory sticks...i take them off

Thank you all. I have been reading as much as having 2 kids and an 8 month pregnant wife can let me lol. There is a seller on here called Ohio Drop Off that is maybe 8 miles from me and they buy this stuff, I just haven't ever made a sale where I have broke stuff down. I am taking anything I get or find atm but really want to get a good collection of gold sticks together as they are 14 a pound right now.

I by no means say you should remove flatpacks, eproms, or mlccs.

Of those tho...One can remove the socketed eproms without a downgrade, or at lest I have.

Do NOT remove the flatpacks unless you want to be downgraded. MLCCs are up to the buyer in my experience, an the board their on.

I pull the MLCCs(your welcome nutpie!) off smaller boards, an certain other ones. My Jar is slowly filling. It takes a lot an my jar is big. LOL.

Far as being busy... - I dig it, but...it takes just as long to word you question, an wait for a response, then it does to just use the search box an get a instant answer. Depopulate, remove from motherboard, etc things like that would have likely turned up some of this info. Once can also use google in a pinch to get a term so one can search on here. "Big black square on computer board" would likely lead you to flatpacks. Same with using "black rectangular thing on board"

Like Mike, I'm saying this for new folks benefits. Not to be a jerk, just you will get a lot more out of this forum if you take the time to search vs waiting for replies. We're all busy people in our own ways, an we all had to figure out how to use what time we have wisely. For me..waiting on answers didn't work. I jumped in head first an continue to swim in the knowledge that is here.

An OP, you'll see a term I use a lot..YMMV. (Your Mileage May Vary). An it means what mike said above...what works for him/me/you, might not work for someone else.

Hardest part of this gig is knowing when to sell an when to hold. You'll figure it out, we all had to at one point or another.

I could regale with tales of how much money I threw away, as could many other long time posters here. LOL.
