Experienced Scrapper
So found the following in a bunch of trash I bought from an auction for a dollar. I took it to a pawn shop it said its gold plated and to look up youtube vids to recover it. The weight is 5.3lbs so I hope there is a few ounces of gold! What do you all think?

I don't want to rain on your parade, but you might get a few grams from that depending on the thickness of the plating.

I agree with AuburnEwaste, and if you try to recover/refine it yourself from watching youtube videos, you'll probably end up with less gold and skin also.

yeah man...if there were THAT much gold...even 25% of what you thought might in there, you would NEVER EVER have been able to buy it. It would have been gone like a fart in the wind.
Also, DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT try to use youtube to "recover" gold (unless you have ALOT of chemistry knowledge I don't know about). You will HURT yourself and could possibly cause a fire/explosion. I am being VERY serious....the acids used will make your lungs into jelly if you breathe it.
Did you possibly make a buck or 2, maybe. Not sure exactly the weight of the stuff, but gold plating is VERY VERY thin on this stuff. It take many pounds to even get enough to matter.
READ the old threads and you will get a GREAT education on this stuff as it has been covered before on here.

I agree. Don't let others rain on your parade. Try a 7 day auction starting around $30 and see what happens. I would work harder on getting better photos posted. I have an iphone that I use so that may be the difference but I do take a lot of photos to get the best I can. I think you can do well with your listing. 73, Mike

Place the weight in the title of the listing. Also, for folks to bite- you have to give them the actual weight of the material. They don't know if that "holder" weighs .50 ounces or 3 lbs. But to be successful in selling these- the buyer will only care what the TRUE weight of the refineable material in the auction is!
I'm so into scrapping.. When my Steel Toe Boots Wear out, I cut the Steel out of them and recycle the Toe!

Thanks for the tips Sledge and mike! Ill see if I can borrow the wife's S7 and change the pictures. The true weight is 4.11 which I took a picture of and put up. Thanks again.
@RLS or it could be a full centimeter thick! :P Are these normally just flashed?

Dude as a couple people already said take better pics. That's just not aimed at you but everybody. A lot of pics that are clear and people are able to zoom in on will sell sale your product.
Just by the blurry pics those aren't flash plated. I am estimating a price around $150.00 dollars. I might back off on that estimate with better pics.
I will make the suggestion of sorting the material in piles to let people know how many of each type there is in the auction.
Always take pictures with a ruler in it so people will know the size of the item.

Doesn't matter at all if it's flash playing. People pay stupid money for shiny on EBay.
