It's not 24 miles, or even 240 miles, but thanks for playing.
I would LOVE to know who buys those type of boards above "near junk" grade - I sure as [ expletive ] can't find anyone ( within reasonable shipping distance ) .
What am I talking about? Basically, that you're getting screwed because you haven't figured this out and or aren't willing to drive the 24 miles (your own numbers) to FedEx or UPS. As far as playing, I do it quite well (many of the buyers could vouch for that).
I have no clue why I'm doing this, must be feeling like a nice guy tonight.
Before we start talking about actual shipping, you need to understand a few things. First, you as an individual, small volume shipper, are not going to get the best rates. With FedEx, you have 2 options the way I see it. First is to get a prepaid shipping label from one of the buyers. Their volume gets them some pretty nice discounts that are passed along to you. I would guess that FedEx shipping for you to Mario would be about $0.30 to $0.35 a pound. Yes you will probably have to drive the 24 miles to get that rate. The other option is to get a business account with FedEx. It is not difficult. Ship once and put a company name in for yourself. A rep will call a few days later and ask you questions about your shipping volume and frequency. If you tell him you are shipping at least once a month, they will sent you up with an account and discounts. Again, to get the best rates, you need to drive the 24 miles.
The next step up is LTL / pallet shipping. From your other post / video, I am assuming that your zip is 15801 as shown in the video. In the past, if I shipped freight thru Mario, he used YRC. A quick search indicates a terminal near you. Shipping this way should be considerably less than FedEx. I have shipped thru Govern numerous times. He has used Central transport. I quick search also shows a terminal near you. In LTL shipping, you need to understand the different rates. If you are a residential address and need a lift gate, it is the highest cost. No lift gate, and it goes down. Commercial address and its lower and finally commercial address, no lift gate is the lowest. In your case, you will probably have to drive your material to the terminal and possibly rebuild your pallet there. This gets you the same price as commercial address no lift gate. My shipping costs thru Govern to Mario have been in the $0.11 range for about 1500 pounds. Just so you know, Govern is a third party shipper. He is a franchisee of Unishippers. Third party shippers move large volumes for numerous people and thus get some of the best rates available. You and I going to Central transport would not even come close to the rates that a third party shipper commands.
As far as which buyers buy those boards at that price, there are a few. You just need to check the buyers section.
