< shrugs > It's all a numbers game and that varies from place to place. Prices are up, but i generally figure about 1.10 $/lb for small socket mobos. Shipping costs run somewhere around .60/lb so that leaves a net profit of .50/lb. I ship mixed loads, but there's generally not any more than 40 lbs of small sockets in there.
That's about twenty bucks.
I could sell that same 40 lbs at the nearest yard for .30/lb for a
net profit of twelve dollars.
That's a difference of about 8.00 dollars but
you have to earn that money. It's generally about half a day's work to box everything up and arrange for shipping. Then there's the cost of shipping supplies and so on. It's all time and money.
I can see why a general scrapper wouldn't want to put the time & effort into
ewaste. I can see why most yards wouldn't be that interested in it either. Their interests are primarily in moving large volumes of metal.
Ewaste is kind of a niche thing in the world of scrapping ?
I think the thing is that people go on the internet, see posted prices shipped to a buyer, and then complain that they're not getting the same prices at their local yard.
JMHO .... but i'm thankful that we have the buyers here. I not doing a lot of volume, but i try to support their businesses because they work so hard at providing excellence in service & pricing.
