Prices of scrap e-waste for components

Dear scrappers.

I wanted to ask how much I would be expected to pay for scrap DVD drives and CPU monitors.

I want to buy around 100 dvd drives and 100 monitor to wreck for components.all non working



I found an e-west recycling yard but he ask me to make an offer first.

How much would you think will be a fair price for such a bulk buy quantity

And should I speak in units or weight.

If they were worth anything, why hasn't the Ewaste recycling yard scrapped them themselves??

If by "wreck for components" you mean extracts parts for use or sale and not disassembly for scrap value then do the following:

Estimate the sale value of whatever you're selling. Price your time and others parts and labor you'll be putting into it. Then subtract the latter from the former. The remainder is the value of the scrap dvd drives or monitors to you. Whether you choose to offer the yard that price is another matter. But that is their value to you.

You can then set the pricing per piece or per pound as you see fit. In general drives are sold per lb and monitors per piece in the ewaste world

Nothing. It's worth nothing.
There's too much plastic in DVD drives & monitors, and not enough escrap to make any $$ from.
If you got it for free you would have to dismantle it, get rid of all the plastic at your own cost ( unless they will buy it)
I doubt if there's any $$ in the scrap steel ( there isn't for me, I take it into the scrap dealers but they don't pay anything for it )
The circuit boards are tiny in the DVD drives & just a general green board price.
There might be a similar board in the monitor, or not.
There's a very thin longish board sometimes with Gold plating on it. Not worth much because it's lightweight.
There's a small amount of sheilded plastic coated Copper wire, the lowest price wire.

Lots & lots of rubbish plastic/foam/tape etc. Sometimes there's glass fluro bulbs too. Lots of waste materials.
It's not worth paying & it won't cover your time.. inkjet printers are the same deal.

I think there could be a language barrier ... perhaps Asian to English ?

Unless you're talking thousands of DVD drives I wouldn't pay anything. You're probably better off to pull the boards and offer the scrap yard a payout based on the board weights.

The last time I bought a pallet of monitors from a scrap yard it wasn't very good (lots of broken screens and scratches from just being casually tossed in the bin). If the monitors are neatly stacked or even just set on the floor in a row and they're 22" or larger you shouldn't have any issues testing and selling them. Any monitors 19" or smaller are practically worthless. I personally don't like paying for monitors since they are low value, but when you're down to 2x resale monitors in stock you make exceptions.
