I'm trying to learn how to estimate values and this one really has me stumped. How is 25 pounds of memory sticks worth $355?

There may a million better places to live than Iowa, but none of them are home!
Many things sell on ebay over their recoverable values. Look up what Pentium Pros are selling for.
Mick on memory sticks the gold finger is the visible gold everyone can see. What can not be seen is the gold in the flat packs, and the gold trace under them. Remember every computer board has gold trace running through it as well as copper in the same line. Anyone that sends boards to be refined should ask for a full accounting of all metals which would include copper as well. An honest refinery should have no problem giving and paying on that accounting.
The memory sticks work the same way. Along with the gold on the fingers there is gold hair wire running through each black chip. Also remember there are mlcc on the sticks which contain platinum, silver and possibly other metals.
So the person that paid that amount might look like they overpaid but if they are refining all the metals in them then they may be coming out ahead or they are hedging and holding the metals thinking that they are going to increase in price in the future. Not everyone who buys ewaste buys for the same reason. I hope this shed some light on this for you.

Thanks, Ray. That helps a lot. I was just figuring the finger for gold - then sell the rest for devalued. Plus, I made allowance for cost of processing. Like I said - It's a learning process. I'll just adjust strategy.
Your welcome Mick. What would be interesting is listing the devalued ram sticks on ebay and see what they bring.
The trimmed ram usually brings around $10 per lb crazyness to me. Ram on Ebay will go as high as $20 per lb recently
