I must be leading a charmed life on
ebay. My feedback is approaching 500 so I've probably done 700+ transactions in 11 years (where does that place me small potatoes for some guys? maybe a lot in other operations? I don't know. But I've probably have had 2-3% or less hassle of where people don't pay me or I've had to refund something or something got broke or stole in the mail. Then again, most of my sales are $5-50 in size. I've never had ebay change the auctions to something like "free shipping" or have paypal refund money to people on their own. I'm not saying this sort of crap doesn't happen but its never happened to me. I wasn't going to use ebay's GSS (or whatever the acronym is) but when I tried it (this one they did sign me up for on their own or I didn't know what I was clicking on at point) and it has worked ok (so far) although there are a good number of horror stories about Pitney-Bowles (the company that contracts with ebay to do this out of the Cinni-N. Ky International Airport) on youtube. The buyer does pay more than they would if you all were doing it private parties but there's no customs forms to fill out for me. Pitney-Bowles uses FedEx (at least they did with a big Star Wars toy I sold to China). So far so good.
My biggest beef with ebay/paypal (heard ebay is going to spin off paypal next year as an independent company) is their percentage of fees of my sales. I think they take a higher proportional cut on smaller amounts than larger sales. Like someone said on this forum, I need to figure out how to work the system smarter not harder...
