shipping auto glass

I have a guy haunting me to ship auto glass from the doors. Willing to pay a decent price too. Anyone deal with this? I'm thinking of going to FedEx and hand them the window. Tell them to deal with it. But yet its cheaper I do it myself. Any ideas?

I would let fedex do it. You're completely covered that way, and insurance is included. Unless you think you can make the package indestructible...because they'll find a way to break it.

Hmm only problem is eBay holding funds with new account. Anyway to circumvent that so shipping comes out of PayPal held funds instead out of my cash in pocket?

Hmmm. I don't know if this would work, but I would do this anyway so that you don't have ebay fees on the shipping. Sell the ebay item on ebay, and invoice him via paypal for the shipping cost. I don't know if paypal holds funds not from ebay transactions, but could be an option to look into.

Billing the shipping after the fact should work

The only way I have shipped window glass >> It was flat
I cut 2 pieces of plywood 3" wider both directions then the glass
screw 3/4" firring strip 1 1/2" wide around the edges to the bottom sheet
Piece of thin (1/4") foam sheet of glass >> place another sheet of the foam on top of the glass
The other sheet of plywood gets screwed to the top to complete the sandwich
I then wrap the plywood box in cardboard or there is an upcharge

The guy must really like those windows! I would suspect it would be spendy to ship such items. I never shipped anything that big but I don't use FedEx and UPS for my ebay boxes because they tend to be more expensive than USPS. And many times I'm sure its the overall cost to someone (the item and the shipping) that are deal breakers. On the other hand, people are getting packages to their door so they no longer have to go out traveling or spend the time searching for the item so they be willing to pay more for getting it that way...

I spoke to one seller. Apperantly they wrap the living piss out of it in big bubble wrap then into a cardboard box. And they ship through USPS priority. And out of 100 windows, only one broke. So guess I will try it, thanks guys.

Still going around the idea. I'm thinking 1\4 plywood and 1 x 2 to make a crate. FedEx said its OK and no up charge for wood. But if you think about. With plywood and wood that's about 15 bucks right there for one window. Not including bubble wrap. And another 15 to ship. So that's 15-20 profit. Not much meat. There's got to be a sure fire cheap way.

Years back I would get very large pieces of bubble wrap for free from places that sold new furniture. It would sometimes have a few dirty damaged areas from shipping. I would also get lightweight wood crating that they wanted rid of.

Another place for packing supplies such as wood and heavy large cardboard pieces is places that sell new recreational vehicles. I still have a bunch of that stuff around and it's still usable.

Some of the cardboard is 3/4 inches thick. Also places that do big truck repairs get nice heavy duty boxes that truck radiators come in. About a half inch thick.

Just some ideas from my past.
