WI ITAD LLC, IT Liquidation Services, we remarket, buy and sell scrap electronics No customer too large or small!
I hear ya on the phone thing. I get better information, and faster, here on the forum.
Some of the big city big sorting postal facilities seem to be the warehouse from the last scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark. A number of years ago I mailed a nice bleached WT deer buck skull to suburban Chicago right after Christmas. Pretty much a straight shot from here to Chitown on I-90 although they probably go through Mpls. first. My the end of the first week the customer asked me fairly stridently where it was. It look nearly another week to get it from the sorting center out to the burbs.
But overall, I ship most of my packages Standard Parcel because a lot of them are larger or bulky and USPS gets them there mostly within their 6 days that they advertise.
Before I started using Fed-Ex I sent Ewasted about SIX 65lb boxes via USPS............They went From Knoxville TN to OHIO VIA CALIFORNIA........LOL......I called and asked them how that was cost effective and they told me not to question how they did things.........AGHHHHHH

Well, let me tell you, yesterday was horrible. Monday will be even worse. Atlanta is known for problems. I will be adding a caveat to my ebay shipping details. I have to, I can't afford to eat 150 bucks at a time. I will try two things at once, advertising multiple shipping options at set rates (since I regularly use fed ex anyways) and setting up my buy it now items with free shipping and roll the costs of shipping with insurance right into it...I sort of do that now but from now on I will make it plain as day thats what the extra cost is for. I already use signature requirement anyways. Simple tool to prevent theft.
I might be rambling a bit, I have terrible sinus infection and I feel even worse.
Point is, be very careful about using USPS, warn your buyers, offer better options and most of all document your shipment.
I hear ya on USPS issues. I've had a rough time with them lately too. They destroyed a well packaged box and lost one of the books from it. The customer was disappointed and I had to send another book as a peace offering, but it wasn't a direct replacement. Priority packages don't seem to get as badly treated. I think they go to a different sorting center. Unfortunately, the shipping cost is high.
FedEx is the way to go for me on heavier items. They haven't lost or seriously damaged anything yet. I can pay extra for pick up or drive 25 miles to the nearest drop off point so I have to watch my costs.
The only problem with the signature required is people who live out in the country like me and are at work when the FedEx truck runs. If I miss it, I have to make a 50 mile round trip to get my package. I try to not make my customers go through that.
Hope you get rid of that sinus infection, not fun.
That's why I want to offer it as an option. I know theft and stuff can be serious issues.
I'm sure they are understaffed because of cuts. The sorting facility that we used to have in town was closed. Now all mail is shipped 150 miles away to be sorted. And then shipped back if it was local mail...
Being a mail man I know first hand how good it is. I also ship a ton using USPS and they loose on average 1 piece a month of first class mail. Easy way to keep this from being an issue is just insure anything you cant afford to eat. Also if you ship in priority packaging its automatically insured up to $50 or $100 depending on the box. So if its more than $50 worth of stuff send it priority or insured. Thats what I do. That way if they loose it they pay for it.
Who doesn't love eBay shipping? Nobody seems to understand that it's out of my hands once the box is at the Post Office.
I've never had a package lost, at least.
matador: "I just jinxed myself!"
I had to make a video on how to package medium flat rate boxes on our website because the mail person will hand me an empty box even though it has a stamped weight of 50 to 70 pounds on it FROM THEM. GET INSURANCE!!!! but be very aware that it will take more than a year to receive your claim. When people package it like I explain in my video it gets to us in perfect condition in three days every single time. Oh and to be very clear we are talking about the United states postal service! I learned a long time ago that you can't abbreviate it or everybody gets it confused with UPS

I ship out a lot of stuff through USPS and with 2 exceptions of stuff getting delayed have not had problem. I ship everything flat rate and insured for the free $50 and tape the heck out of the boxes.
usps called me today to tell me item was lost in transit to the atlanta facility and that it is not at the facility. he then said he will check to see if it was on "that turned over truck" and if so ill get the insurance back immediately
