Has anyone tried to file a complaint about the quality of your local service? I have, I was having a problem awhile back, my mail was consistently being delivered after 6 pm, when at one time it was like clock work between 2 to 3 pm. We even got it after 8:30 pm once. I went to local post office to inquire why so late? Was referred to assistant manager, he acted like no big thing, even said "you got it didn't you". I asked to speak to his boss, he was on vacation. When does he return? Response "not sure". So for every other day I returned, after three weeks, I was told he was in, please wait by P.O. boxes, he will be out to see you soon. In this entire period of time I and my neighbors mail was late every night (I was not the only one trying to find out why?). When manager comes out to see me, he asked how can I help you? I explained in detail, his response? Iv'e been on vacation I'll need to look in to this. I asked? Is it normal for mail to be delivered so late? All depends. What is your goal, like what time do you want the mail delivered by? His response was, we really don't have a set time, as long as it's delivered six days a week. I asked is there a procedure to file a formal complaint? Response No, is there anything else I can help you with.

pjost - I agree with you overall for the price, the volume they deal with it is overall a good system. Try to get USPS management to do something if there is a problem. In my company, if one of my trucks isn't in when I expect them, I want to know why, before a customer ask me! If a customer needs to get a hold of me, it has never taken three weeks! If they want to know the procedure to complain, it's simple don't pay me until your happy with my service. I can count on three fingers the times I haven't been paid, in full and those were me giving a customer credit for our mistake.

In my opinion, the problems at USPS is not with the workers, it's the management and it starts with the U.S. Congress.

Just passing along the info and grumbling over here in the corner...

*Also they are only insuring up to $50 for free now instead of $100 on priority mail.

Yes I just noticed that also, I went back and go what the heck going on.. it was 5.00 and then I made a mistake and went back and redid it and it turn to 6.10 just for a small package I'm like really, I think I could of gotten away with postage stamps, Not to happy... espeically when they can't mail my mail or recv my mail, They want more money yes it tough work, but they royally screwed up on one issues and I paid a huge consequences and they admitted to their fault and all they could say is We're sorry.

so, I've lost a few bucks on a few of my sale but will make changes on the next relisting.

so I feel for us scrap guys. and the saddest thing is you sell an item for 6.00 and you make .90 then paypal takes their share and you're left with ziip nadda..
and I also saw that too, about the 50.00 heck at times they would not insure package that I recv or sent.

and I got some knarly package just got in last week, box is blown wide open, and or medium flat rate box damaged, the item inside was worth 100.00 but lucky it was still working and thankfully for the padding my partner put in it at the other end.

I some what feel sorry for USPS it has 535 plus bosses. Every congressman, senator, president, and every other political assistant etc. acts as their boss. They can't close down any branch offices with out permission from all of them.

Personally I would drop to 3 day a week home delivery but of course that would bring down the wrath of all the government "bosses" and the unions.

With all these restrictions could you operate your business successfully?

As I do sell on ebay and use the ebay shipping services these rate changes have come with good and bad news. The increase in first class maximum weight from 13 to 16 oz. has been good. In the end it is what it is. 73 Mike

I shipped 6 DVD's from South Dakota to my niece in North Carolina on Friday. She got them on Tuesday. $6 and change. A bargain if you ask me.

Go ahead and flame me about my stupidity.... I think the USPS is reasonable!
Oh they are pretty reasonable for smaller packages and some of the flat rate stuff. But I tried to send off a Dot Matrix printer that weighed around 34 pounds. USPS wanted $70 plus insurance. It left Illinois on a FedEx truck for $36 with full insurance.

My understanding is that ebay applies the FVF only to shipping DIFFERENCE, such as if I charge 6.10 to ship small flat rate and it cost 6.10 then remaining balance is zero and no fvf is applied to shipping costs.

My account breakdown when I looked "appears" to reflect this but it's **** hard to figure out because ebay doesnt really lay any of it out for you. I just looked at their fees breakdown. After alot of searching, sure enough, they charge full FVF for the entire transaction...including calculated shipping....which...I have no control over. How can I do an international transaction and have no idea the fee but get charged in advance of actual shipping costs... gah what a nightmare.

    This Ebay's definition of FVF:

If the item sells, you're charged a final value fee. Final value fees are calculated based on the total amount of the sale and are charged per item.

The total amount of the sale is the final price of the item, shipping charges, and any other amounts you may charge the buyer. Sales tax is not included.

So you do pay FVF on the shipping costs, The FVF for a CPU will be the same if you charge 100 with free shipping or 95 plus 5 shipping.

    No Nightmare at all
    VERY Easy
For International shipments eBay charges you the shipping FVF based on your cheapest offered Domestic shipping cost
I LOVE International shipping because again I make additional profit
I list my items with FREE domestic shipping >> and calculated International shipping
So the Domestic shipping cost to zone 8 is built into the item price
SO when it is an International sale >> Buyer pays FULL cost of shipping per calculator and that amount built into the price to cover Domestic shipping becomes PURE PROFIT!
eBays FVF on the shipping is $0.00 since I offer FREE Domestic shipping

Label prints same way as a domestic label but also prints out a customs form >> Be sure to edit / dumb down the item description
default is your item title >> so change 24K GOLD mens Rolex watch >> To Mens Watch
I place my USPS International packages in the same pile on the front porch as the domestic packages and the Carrier picks them all up when they deliver my mail around 4PM

That's what I thought...when did the total shipping versus differential costs FVF rule change? I've looked and found very little information on it.

at least 3 years ago if not 4 - 5
Stopped the people that would list a $100.00 item for $10.00 with $90.00 in shipping and only pay FVF's on the $10.00
Now, IMHO, it is fair as everyone pays the same (roughly) FVF's based on TOTAL Price
and it seems Buyers LOVE to think they are getting something for nothing so they LOVE the FREE shipping

I remember it being that way too and getting pissed off when eBay was charging a fee against shipping without knowing what the final cost would be. Glad to hear it has changed.

I quit ebay a few years back when I was selling frame clips of old horror movies and signed clips things like that. I sold a wolfman film case, not the film...just the case for 400 bucks once. I do like some classic cinema lol. But what happened was the rules changed and it cost me alot of money to continue operating and as a spare time gig I wasnt willing to invest my free time just to recoup a loss.

I suppose I am a bit of a dinosaur lol, I've been ebaying since I was in high school (late 90s) off and on, more off than on.
