Interesting. I would love to know how this goes for you. I've wondered about crafting as a possible value-add for certain things.
Have sold these before but copper was at $3/LB then....LOL
Can't predict the future, but being as my wife is a crafty type of person...she's always hitting me up for copper like in the posting for making jewelry or whatever else catches her fancy.
Here's to hoping it goes as well for you as it has me locally.
Sirscrapalot - Doh! - Homer, The Simpson, not that other less famous Homer.
I used to pull those off and remove the copper. Last year I sold some to a yard for 20 cents a pound but that yard has since closed.
Now I just leave them on the boards and sell them locally for low grade.
Depending on the size, but I pull and fill up 5 gallon buckets then when I have time I smash and unwind. The last two months I have taken in 65 lbs and 42 lbs worth of #2. Just from those that are being sold on eBay. Not sure exactly how much time I spent but to me it is worth it. My yard would only pat .10 a pound if I sold as is.
I used to do them for the copper but it didn't seem like i was getting much out of it. It was something like one pound of copper per hour of work ?
The ferrites bothered me too. Some have got that dust inside instead of the iron core. It make a mess when you bust them up. There's no way of knowing for sure what that dust actually is.
26 days and 9 hours to go and still no takers. I can fill boxes with that stuff. The outcome of this auction could open up some new doors unless the success of this sale creates a flood of similar items being listed. Everyone knows what happens when the market gets flooded. No sale or very low sale price.
There is a reason those badges are under my name........Just trying to share some tricks of the trade but I will keep them to myself or over in THE SCRAP ROOM from now on
They have sold!
About $40 for about 40# of toroids. Would you rate that as a total success or just slightly better idea than not doing it? Somewhere in the middle?
By me they would go as copper contend so $.04 a pound! So I think that this is a much better way to move them!
