You can break down far more than 20 per day. I don't break down power supplies but I would remove the boards from hard drives. I would think 10-15 per hour with a little practice. I did 44 one day in about 3 hours including set up. Mike

Now go beat the copper out of something, Miked
I do things a little different which will affect the total #'s. The DVD/CD's I pull the boards and motors, cases go in steel pile. I break hard drives all the way down, pull the board, and everything else inside get sold separately. I cut the wire off the power supplies and sell them whole to a buyer. The gold ends off the wires go in a bucket for later. The wiring goes as #2. The rest pretty well goes with what your listing.

If you enjoy your freedom, thank a vet.
15 an hour is pretty reasonable if you are set up efficiently. I did 15 Saturday morning, and it didn't take me much more than that. Plus that was working around the other stuff in the garage.
If you don't want to hassle with them, then get them free or low cost and sell them to me or another ewaste scrapper that wants to make some good money.
No video in the near future, recovering from transplant.
As someone mentioned you need to be set up to process them. I break down the cd/DVD and hard drives as a group. This allows me to have the correct bits installed in my drill. I use a 6 inch Philips bit to do the initial break down. The "bench" I use is a bar stool that the seat spins. So I am able to move the tower to get to the screws quickly mike
I brought home 3 the other day and it took me 15 minutes to break down three of them, and take all the parts out to my shed. I bet I could do 15 in an hour easy as pie and 25 an hour would be doable also.
I wasn't referring to computers. I was replying in regard to all the other stuff mentioned. My whole point is my interest in computers but I dont see how someone can expect to find thousands of them a year to scrap even if they could keep up a 15 or 25 per hour pace breaking them down.
For me, I get pretty excited when I come across a bunch of computer towers. For the amount of space/weight that it takes up you get a pretty good return. I did see someone recently post that they buy used working computer components. Im going to continue learn how to maximize my profits in the ewaste sector of recycling. The more I recycle the more efficient I get.

I would have to disagree that it is just a hobby......For me it allows me to have enough money to do what I please and pretty much whatever I want to do as long as I work at it at least 40 hours a week......I can't think of any other manual labor job that allows me the freedom as well as the pay that e-scrap does.........oh well just my .02 cents worth for what little it is worth

On the other side of the coin I'm burning out on e-waste quickly..........Good thing I have made a big pocket full of money to go on a nice vacation....LMFAO
my ewaste is limited, i bought 160 from a local school for $250, bought 17 from a local credit union, and had approximately 20 others we had aquired from free up to $8 apiece. we still have the monitors to break down and most of the cases, printers overheads and some digital projectors. anyway we worked a whole day just loading up the ones at the school,(they had to be checked off of inventory) spent a day and a half breaking them down and a day taking them down to easyrecycle. anyway 60 hours worth of work counting my driving 400 for the computers, we got 2154 from easy, figures to about $29 an hour. i liked the computers okay and we made okay money and we decided to save them up and do them once a year, to be honest i can make way more in other ways in less time, cars are my favorite, but the fire extinguishers and sealed cylnders are still the best as far as profit verses time goes for me, just my opinion
I agree but there seems to be a huge surplus of old computers here............I have over 300 computers right now and prob around 100 crt's plus i'm buying 500 lbs of mboards tommorow.....Fun Fun (ME TIRED) LOL
I am hinting at more of the natural A-Z that goes along with getting computers. I have not been to, or talk to, anyone who is doing it as big biz, who is not also handling gaylords of wire, aluminum, copper, steel, cell phones, batteries, etc...
One of the calls I got in early May has so far yielded, 250 pc's, 30 servers, 90 crts. 20 flat screens, 12 upc's, 110 printers (mostly old laser) and barrels and barrels of old ram, side cards, power supplies, cat 5 cable, power cords out the ying yang, printer cables, etc. Once I begin to work with a school, business or other entity, I encourage them to do, and continue to do, "electronics decluttering," to go through closets, desks, drawers, shelves... anyplace they have stored the out-of-sight-out-of-the-way kinda clutter. They have had me back twice already.
I have 55 gallon drums sitting neatly out of the way at almost every place I have gotten in the door. Most like the idea of having someplace to just toss it all in, (or put things next to) and someone who will come and exchange them within a day or two of them calling. Many of them do a spring and fall cleanup, or green day, so that is 2 good loads a year, plus all the little ones. IT ADDS UP TO LOTZ.
I think the biggest part of any business plan, large or small, has to be PASSION. I really enjoy the work, fixing computers, tearing them apart, meeting people, learning something new everyday and growing just a little bit each week. So, no matter how it all adds up on paper, if there is no PASSION for it...why do it? jus my 2. off to the yard. have a great day! BroJer
oh yea...what did I pay for all that...um, wellllllll NUTIN! If you market yourself and services right, most places (at least that I have dealt with) are happy to have someone to work with they can trust and glad to get it out, and keep it out, of their way
It sounds like you have the right mix and the right attitude. I feel the same about computers, but I don't have the space for the other stuff, so I guess I'm in the minority. I'll have to be satisfied with that. It is a lot of fun to tinker with them, and you are right about having to have a passion for it. I do. I think when I retire from my main gig, this will be a hobby I'll enjoy to fill the time and to earn a few extra dollars along the way. Until then, I will to absorb as much info as I can from the excellent and more experience people on this site.

This is an excellent suggestion. What prices have you seen for some of the more-than-scrap-value boards? Also, I assume, correct me if I'm wrong, that those prices are based on having the board tested to verify that it functions. If you can't test them, would that preclude you from being able to sell them for their full value?
I buy from local yards here......600 lbs of mboards finger boards telecom and a few low grade mixed in today...........I don't make a huge profit but it is good biz because they do me good when I take a load of scrap or whatever I have and I am always treated like a first class citizen(scrapper) when I use this yard.....They know i'm not a tweaker or dealing in stolen goods and I give them an outlet for their high grade stuff where they don't have to ship.....Anyways I feel like I make a decent living doing scrap and buying and re-selling stuff so I will just keep at it........
