I took a box of stuff to Hi-Tech Recyclers in Pittsburgh today.
The owner is a very, very cool guy. This was my first load of
e-scrap ever. I just started collecting it and wanted to gauge if it was worth the effort. One little plastic storage tote was $80.00. I know, not setting any record but for a weeks worth of picking up stuff for free not bad. I had already took all the wire and shredder in so my grand total for a a few hours was around $250. This included the other metal people through in when I went for the computers.
So I get to Hi Tech and the guy takes me in and we go through my stuff. He weighs it all and we go into the office. After talking for about 2 hours, I had got the tour of the shop. I got to see all his personal treasures of e-scrap. Lots of cool stuff. He helped explain all the grades and showed me everything. After I told him I liked his operation and hoped to do something similar he offered to help in any way he could. He ever offered to send to the guy that is helping min get R2 certified!
All in all I had a great experience. I probally will sell him everything I get for a while as long as his prices are close. A few cents a pound are nothing when someone treats me so well. Look out for him he said he was going to be stopping I bookmarked the site on his computer.
