Macintosh Power PC. Anything special?

they are a work horse. i ran 2 of them in my print shop up until 2009. I made a lot of $$ off them, using them to go film direct with digital files, which replaced a darkroom. ck ebay to see what the hard drive may bring before you strip it. there are a lot of folks out there that still pu on some of the old mac stuff. jus my 2 BroJer

I picked one up today too. From what I gather from eBay, it's worth about $40 if it works and you have the keyboard. I wouldn't say there's anything special. If you held on to it for another decade, maybe. It's really the old Macs such as The Lisa that are collectible and super high value. When it comes to Apple, it is always good policy to check before you tear it apart.

I got a few the other day. Power PC is the processor line, but yeah, a bit ironic lol.

These things run forever (As do most computers made before 1999). Nothing of collector value unless you get back to the 70's and 80's, that's where the "Vintage" computer line currently stands.

Possibly parts as stated before, sometimes parts can be hard to find. Check all that out before you scrap it.

Not exactly true, working 68K macs are collectable. I would pay more then scrap value for a PowerPC 9150, Quadra 840AV, Quadra 800, Quadra 700, SE, SE30, Color Classic and any decent Nubus cards.

Sure some of the 70's machines are worth some bucks, but people have scrapped them all by now and the rest are in collections.

Yes, there are some after the 80's that are collectible, however as computers are in general, anything after the 80's isn't considered "Vintage" is what I was trying to get across. There's still rare stuff out there from later.

And that's what makes them valuable, because nobody has them floating around, they're almost all put away by collectors.

Everything is based upon how rare the item is, as with any collectible.

They were called a powe pc because they could run pc programs on the mac platform.

Rarity is one aspect, but popularity and story is more important. I know a few people with ultra rare computers that only go for a few thousand at best (we are talking a handfull made) because nobody cares about that brand.
