Radar units from commercial boats

I bought some boat radar units from the state auction. The cost was low but the travel it took made it not a profitable proposition. I am posting some photo's so other scrapers who run across these might consider picking them up. Personaly I would not pay for one but would take them for free.

These old units contain a crt type tube and the shell is mostly Al. So there are several pounds of Al in each unit. The good news is there was one to three high quality boards in all.

Are the leggs on those chip's gold plated in the last picture?

These units were far from usable. I did check to see if any are selling even for parts. None being sold New models use LCD screens.

I did these before the transplant operation just feel good enough to post here. I still need some more recovery time.

The legs on the white ic are gold plated. It's the same ic I sent you a email about. Mike

They did come out of boats owned by the state(N.C.). The state have a lot of boats used in the intercoastal waters and the ocean as well as the rivers. They operated ferrys for transporting cars/people to the outer islands and boats used for commercial fishing enforcement. They also have research vessels.

Bear if you want a fun radar to play with at home go to the big outdoors stores and you might be surprised what you can get for not a lot of money.

I also got an antenna that was about 4 feet long. It was made of Al and figerglass. On the inside of the fiberglass front it looks like gold plated metal.

No it would not be magnetic. I expect the base metal to be brass. In person it appears to be gold plated. I haven't used my gold testing acids on it yet. I've been too busy to trying to heal. On that score I am doing well, all my labs are where they should be. No signs of rejection of the new kidney. I am feeling almost as good as I did before the transplant. Thanks to all on the forum for the support and the entertainment I get reading the post. Mike.
