    Fiber Optic RS-232 Ring Transceivers

    Hello all, I recently acquired a bunch of Fiber Optic RS-232 Ring Transceivers. The cases are aluminum. Does anyone know what grade the boards are and if there are any interesting components that I should be aware of?

    A picture would certainly help, I think you need 5 posts under your belt to post a photo/link. You can get one other easy post to your credit by going to the main forum page and finding the "introduce yourself" section, and make a post there ; )

    Here are some pictures. The manufacturer is Force Inc. There's a sticker on the side that says to avoid direct contact with the laser beam and that it contains Indium Gallium Arsenide Phosphide. Anyone know if there's a market for this components or if it would stay on the board when selling? Thanks all.

    Low grade motherboard if the connector ends are male and gold. otherwise its medium grade. plus to get motherboard all that steel/alum needs to come off. If the IC chip is removable and you have gold plated connectors it can also be bumped up to high grade. (but thats pushing it)

    fiber optics are much different than copper. When people move to fiber they don't want old technology they want the newest. So the resale market for fiber products is not as strong. If you can find some one looking to replace that exact part then u can resale if not, scrap it.

    Good info, thanks guys. I'll definitely remove the aluminum for my local scrap yard and figure out whether the boards merit shipping.

    The laser component on the board says it contains Indium Gallium Arsenide Phosphide. Anyone know if that's a problem for shipping or selling?
