    Do scrap yards sell scrap?

So when i went to my local yard today to get rid of heat sinks I asked about E waste. He said they they bought it and when I asked how much I almost felt insulted even though I wasn't there to sell any of mine. He said they paid a nickel a pound for mother boards...... A nickel? Is that cause they have no clue or is it simply cause the local plublic bringing it to them don't question it? My thoughts were, if they're paying a nickel could I pay them a dime, shoot I'd pay them a dollar for high grade boards. Anyone have experience buying from a scrap yard?

I would have been insulted also. My yard works on some wide margins on e-scrap, but we are not making $4.20 profit per pound.

Yes, I'd say a good 30% of my escrap comes from one of my local yards. The owner buys it for pennies (towers) and when he has at least 10 towers or so, he'll text me and I'll pick them up same day. I've found the key to maintaining that relationship is literally dropping everything when they text, and show up with cash. If they know they can count on you every time to run down there to pick it up with cash in hand, then you'll have a nice consistent supplier.

Every so often there will be a few crap towers or partials in there, but I still buy them as normal, because next time around, I might have a pile of towers with Core 2 Duo chips in them. It all works out.

If you don't mind me asking, what do you pay the yard?

Flat rate of $4/tower. (95% of the time).
