If your needing to break them off then you should be leaving them on, unless it's a lower grade board.

"Give them enough so they can do something with it, but not too much that they won't do nothing."
rule of thumb. If its soldered on leave it on.
Great so now you are telling me I should through the box of motherboards I have and pull all the CMOS chips off (If socketed)
If I get board I might other wise I will start pulling them in future.
The ones I have pictured above were not soldered on. I took a small flathead screw driver, and put underneath and just lifted them up.
I have seen others talk about them, but didnt know what they were worth.
The ones that are soldered on, I cant remove without breaking them.
Okay for some reason, I have 6 hard drives that are not getting detected on my pc. I dont know if that means they have already been wiped or not.
Besides the possibility of them already being wiped, is there another reason for this?
I dont feel comfortable trying to sell them on ebay if they do contain information.
If they dont detect on your computer how can they be wiped? If they dont detect then something is wrong with the drive.
Maybe you should just save yourself the brain damage and sell them to Parttimescrapper.
MAke sure the jumpers are currect on the drive. If they are set to slave it most likly will not work.
Usaly there is a sticker on the drive that shows
You want either Master or Cable select
