Hard to tell how deep some of those boxes are with connectors/pieces. Can be deceiving.

Don't make an offer untill you see for yourself. Then I wouldn't offer to much. Like mikeinreco said offer to haul everything out for free.

If it's an hour away, you've probably spent a decent amount in fuel. Have to agree with others - spend as little as you can get away with. Play the whole bit of how you had to spend $40 in fuel just to get there (or something like that). Good luck!

if i had to drive an hour i would say 10-15 dollars are trade them out some good memory, power supplies or whatever you may have set aside that is better than scrap. also if nothing else its a good chance to get some other contacts from him of others in the buisness.

I agree with everyone else, nothing obviously of great value. But you never know what may be hiding in one of those boxes. Maybe a coffee can full of pentium pro's. I also think it would be a good opportunity to make a new client. It may not be huge this first go around but if the guy is impressed with you and your business you may be called back. Maybe even be able to stop in whenever you're in the area. Sell the deal as you're providing him a service of proper disposal and recycling. Think of this first visit as a samll investment for something larger down the line. Good luck

Always could play the "Im offering a service and disposing of your garbage free" card. oh and a box of coffee and donuts from Dunkin Donuts. Works for me most of the time.

your op said you got a call to buy excess scrap that a computer shop left behind. is the shop owner selling or is it the landlord that wants to clean out shop so he can get a new tenant in. If thats the case then I would try to get the stuff for free or try to get him to pay you to clean out the shop of everything even the non computer stuff.

So basically a wasted trip, he had a desk i could of used for warehouse, he wanted $30.00 for. So with basic junk he had there you see in pictures i offered $50.00 including desk (it was all junk) he took all good stuff out and had it downstairs. He said he needed $150.00 for what you see above, nothing hidden, nothing deep in boxes. It was a office that was left behind and a mess. My services to remove for free was very fair. He said his boss wouldnt let him and he then said i can do $75.00. So i was bsed and left empty handed...

He did have a huge roll of fiber optic cable.. But i wasnt sure of value.

I had a another stop 30 minutes east so wasnt a complete waste of time. Plus i got to train my employee a little in customer communication..but on brightside possibly landed 3 schools in last 2 days and 1 college...
