The one I go to is called the ReStore, part of ReSource. I think they have several places throughout the state. Don't quote me on this, because I'm not totally positive, but I think the state legislation passed a couple years ago involving
EWaste (that made it free for citizens to dispose of 24/7) actually requires them to accept stripped out monitors. But I still try not to abuse it... so far I've been fortunate and haven't had to take too many CRTs. People are pretty good about properly disposing stuff around here, and the state has "free chemical/radioactive/ewaste drop off" days a couple times a year. I actually saw a sign for one today near Montpelier. They're quite popular. In a way that's not a good thing for us lowly "EScrappers", but it's great for the environment in general I suppose. Lots of that stuff we wouldn't want anyways, and just might end up buried or tossed in a brook otherwise.
Anyways, by all means, hit them up! Bring any lower value working stuff you just don't want to mess with as well, they definitely seem happier to deal with me when I do. Being a local I see that as rather important... too bad they refuse to sell me any of their "donated" obsolete goodies
They insist it's against the law, though as far as I know all they'd have to do is remove the hard drives to comply. They probably do exactly what we want to do with it, and get paid similar if not more.
