yeah i just saw the battery testers on ebay. but its not really a good investment most of the laptops you are gonna get are gonna have bad battery's you'll be lucky to get one that still holds 75% of its charge. but anyways heres a link on with the multimeter

If the computer doesn't power on after charging the battery remove the battery and try powering it on with a power adaptor this should tell you if the battery is shot.
