    buying computers by weight

Does anyone buy them by weight? I know 3-5$ seems to be the typical purchase price. There is a tiny non ferrous yard that just started buying computers @ .10c a lb. I talked to an employee today about purchasing them and seemed surprised and a bit happy I was willing to buy cash money. If they are buying them for 2 to 3$ which is what the weight breakdown comes out to be; would offering 5$ a piece or 20c a pound seem like a good offer?
    Thanks, Russell

I would start off by offering .15/lb and then let them know you will bring the nonferrous (al heat sinks and stuff) back to them. I have a similar deal with a scrapyard here. They don't get a lot of computers but I buy them at more than shred and then bring back the cases back to them. They make money both ways and I make money too.

I wouldn't pay more than .25 for them if they were whole (no missing parts)

There are so many angles to shoot this one, thanks. They have 7 pallets sitting in the back as if right now I was told.

7 pallets? I would be over there in the morning with my truck and some cash when they open. Take a quick look to see if they were mainly intact, do a quick count of how many per pallet x7 then figure $3 per....pull out the right amount of cash in my left hand then stick out my right hand for a "binding" agreement

    Ye who hesitates, loses!

These would be mainly consumer/ residential computers. He said they get a few here and there. I'm assuming they would all basically be in tact. I would have to assume taking the good with the bad. I am just going to assume they won't bite @3$ a piece, as their profit woukd be rather small. At that rate .50
-1$ each profit at that price. It's not like they're getting thousands per week.

See if you can buy a pallet from him as a test buy and then run the numbers? Process it pretty quick and it would give you an idea of the breakdown numbers and give you some cash to buy the rest of them.

You would do fine I think offering $.20 a pound. Just my $.02
