Heat symc on Processor and Memory Spacer

I have a processor with a heat sync attatched on it and seen to be next to impossible to get off. I have tried to get it off but broke the chip in the process. I would like to know first if buyers care if the processor is broken or not? Should I leave the heat sync on and if so what is it considered? And if I should remove any ideas on removing it?

I also have this memory spacer with no chips on it Id like to know what to sort it as.

The pictures of both are here... http://s1175.photobucket.com/albums/r635/timfiske1/

Thanks to all the SMF members that van help.

when they're glued or stuck that well, the way i've found is to use a utility/boxcutter knife and carefully work your way around it, please note i said carefully(not for the cpu sake but your finger's) Once you get it started apart they'll usually pop on off

What is a RAM spacer? got a photo ?

tell ya what, if you've got some wide shipping tape you might stick the pieces together on there so it's still identifyable, but since they sell by weight, i'd think identifying it would be your main priority

Most of the CPUs with the heat sink glued that I have seen are 486. Could be some out there that are different. The ram spacer is just a blank ram stick mainly used in dell crap. finger board is where most of the past buyers have sorted mine. Dont see them much any more tho.

Try a little heat on it from a heat gun. Had one the other day just like that but it did come off when I pried it with some extra force.

I got the processor off the heat sink using a scrapper that i heated up with a propane tourch but it still came off in peices. Ill probably do what bear said and put it on a peice of tape so its recognizable. Thanks everyone for their input.

Bear I've pulled 4 out this week, two each out of Dell's. I couldn't figure out what the heck considering it came from where the Ram goes.

I have pulled lot of those from Dell computers. They are called continuity modules. I have thrown them in with my RAM in the past I think, but may be best cutting the fingers off of these.

I also have a computer repair guy that wants them and will trade me burned up RAM for these.

I've seen numbers of dual slot processor boards using a blank to fill an empty processor slot, but never one in the ram slots. I left off chasing computers about 5 years ago, and that's probably where they slipped into the "end of life" batch

those ram blanks are for RDRAM, You've to put two blanks in the other slots if you not fill them up with ram. That in place allows the system to flow data across the buss without them.. computer won't boot up.. so yes they are very common.. on the dell. and some gateway, that You must install blank ram and again they are called Rambus RDRAM. they are worth quite some money to some people. Hope that helps.
