Ok...so some Hard Drive break downs...

Ok...so since I am staying at my yard for a couple random nights to try and prevent another break in...figured I'd go back and run through some of my e-waste break down. Started off with my hard-drive pile from today. These prices are current with what I get paid from shipping out of the Baltimore port... Well, here goes...This took me 73 minutes to do!

100 Hard Drives (95 regular hard-drives & 5 laptop hard-drives)
Hard Drives w/o brd's 115 lbs $46
Hard Drive Boards 9 lbs $110.25



Thought I was doing good...but for an hours time (yes it's an hour after a long day but still) to walk away with $156.25 up don't know if it really is worth it...I can sell them complete @ $1.20/lbs bringing in $148.80.

So then in that hour I actually only made $7.45...I haven't made less than $20/hr since I was 19 (besides the Navy a& that was just fun...most times)

I know I can spend more time to break it down more but found that wasn't really making it worth while. Am I looking at this wrong?!?

No...my 44 or 38 special will do just fine but I do appreciate the concern. I have signs up and am so tired of calling the police after the fact to have them do nothing. Last time the S.O.B. walked off with 4 monthes of my CPU chips...(I process close to 10,000lbs of computers a week so I had a lot...was saving them until winter time..ish)

I could try to just be polite and ask him why...but as pissed as I am...I want a little fun! I hate thieves...and I'll catch him...it's 6:15 my time tho so maybe next time...

I've done that before and after running the numbers...just didn't see it to be worth while...

@ least not in any kind of timely way...takes too long and the longer it sits here...the less I can invest it somewhere else...

Make sure you have a throwaway piece on hand if things get ugly.

I sell it to my exporter...I get good pricing on it for the lack of effort...I just don't see the point when I am trying to turn it quickly.. is all you know..?

I had the same experience. hard drive break down is too time consuming. I broke all the way down about 3 or 400 hard drives clean cast brought .50 stainless paid .55 disks were counted as stainless, motors .18 the die cast rails .27. now I'm stuck with the disk readers, and , the magnets, can't find a buyer for either.

I know full well I'm geting screwed, how about a PM telling me where to sell these items.

ya that would be my guess too. I dont have the tome to sell 6000 magnets and 6000 readers on E bay. I was hoping fore one buyer.

This break down will depend on if you have a buyer nearby or not. I don't. Therefore at the very least, I pull the boards and ship them. Shipping whole hard drives or hard drives minus boards is not an option for me and everything must be broken down. Of course I e-bay on a regular basis, so am always ready to sell the magnets and platters with just 5 minutes work.

the hard drive motors are called stepping motors and they go for about 50 cents each.

Don't forget the peel off tabs on the back of the motors that have the 4 gold dots or fingers.

Did you ever post pics of this mountain of HDs? Or the parts? That must be one gigantic ball of magnets If I missed it, toss me a link, I wanna see! Seriously, you could be the real life Dr. Magneto!
