Just a comment here, but I think that at least 95% of the people that I talk to look glazed over when i offer to buy by the pound. The thought of dragging in a scale and weighing all different stuff is a bit overwhelming for them and me. Now that i know what to look for it is usually easier to just offer 1 flat price for everything. Typically it comes out better for me in the end anyway. In the few cases where someone wants a specific # weight i'll bring along a scale, but not keeping it in the truck.
My customers love that I use my scale.......I give them a breakdown on company letterhead and try to answer as many questions as possible to help them sort their loads and maximize their money
