Also not just theirs, Also their neighbors. A gold refiner can easily contaminate the ground with chemicals. Poisoning well water, causing air born health problems. Dont even get me started on people that do it in an apartment building and think opening a window will work.

Thanks Shendog, KZ and Parrot for your respones back.
I will leave the gold refining to the professionals that is not my cup of tea. The main reason I asked is that you got me thinking about if I was violating my life insurance policy in anyway. In case something did happen to me that, the insurance company may come back and not pay out the benefit to my wife if they got wind of me having this type of hobby / side gig.

As some of the above have said, tell the truth so you don't have to memorize your lies.

I say the following, or some variation on it:

Yes, there is a small amount of gold and other precious metals, but getting it is like trying to get the eggs out of a cake after you baked it. So I ship those parts off, and they get re-sold to refiners. Mostly I recycle the wires, the metal case, the little fan motor, the heat sinks, and the power supply. I even recycle the little tiny screws. I do it because I enjoy taking stuff apart, and I get a couple bucks as a bonus. It's a lot of fun...I'll be happy to show you if you want to see...

now the turd is on their plate, and they are trying to figure out how to nicely say "no"
