Well, it started early in the week. I got an e-mail from an e-waste supplier that is now the third time he has gotten ahold of me. It started with him letting me know that he had a bunch of printers and monitors for me. He is a good 40 minute drive so I was not too enthused about it, but he sent a picture and I figured that the trip was worth it for the scrap price o the printers. They were good sized printers and I can drop 10 monitors at Goodwill no problem so I agreed.
As the week went on the pile grew and by Thursday the pile of stuff in the warehouse I was told was going to be three loads for me with my truck and trailor. As I said before, this is a repeat supplier so he knew the size of my truck and trailor. There are now a bunch of computers in the mix as well.
Anyhoo, I take off this morning with my truck and trailor already loaded with shred as it was full and the yard was on the way. Not a huge load, but $73 I think. Shred was at 8 cents a pound. That is about an average load for me. I then proceed further north to my destination and start looking at the pile. There were a ton of monitors and what I worked up was to take 20 of them total. 10 in the first load and a bunch of good stuff that I would take back home and off load into my garage and then drop the monitors at Goodwill on my way back up for the second load. First load had 14 towers some cables, and about 80 of these things. IBM 3488 InfoWindow II Modular Display Station Twinax I/F | eBay Relax, they don't sell for that asking price ever. I saw that occasionally they will sell for $20 shipping included. I can not afford to hold on to them and make a few dollars each after shipping and e-bay fees especially since I can't test them and a couple that I popped open were corroded around the battery. They each have a nice board that is motherboard or better grade (just over 6 ounce) and a power supply. It took me less than one minute to break down. So They will be all smushed by end of day tomorrow to make room and get some quick cash back.
Second load to save some time and generate some quick cash was nothing but printers that went straight to the yard. While I was gone with the first load, the guy at the warehouse cut the cords and pulled all of the toner cartridges for me. There was one monster printer on wheels and about a dozen or so fairly large table models. We left to run to the yard. We stopped for a drink and the guy I had working for me noticed that there were 2 thumb screws on the back that easily released a slide out mother grade board with a stick of RAM in each one. We pulled the rest of them while we were unloading at the yard. Was nice that my guy kept his eyes open. First time I ever had him work for me and he was not afraid to work and kept his eyes open for what I needed. (he is also one of my regular suppliers for motherboards and such as he is a computer fixer upper and reseller).
The load was my largest ever to the shred yard. Just over a ton at $166.
Back up for the third load.Nothing crazy. Another 10 computers or so, some more wire, some batteries, some heat sinks, and a bunch of more smaller printers that will be for shred. I also grabbed the other 10 monitors that I promised to grab that will go to Goodwill spometime this week.
I paid out $190 for the loads and with gas and help, I put out around $290 total with the 166 back already. By Monday I will have the wire ready to take to the scrap yard along with the batteries and should have all of my money back. Then comes everything else. There are some nice e-bayable items including 4 IBM mechanical keyboards that should fetch $40 each and a few other small items. Oh, and 2 of the computers are servers and one of them has some really nice stuff in it.
Long hard day, from a chance call that I got months and months ago that has now resulted in my third load from them. Keep at it and those loads will keep coming.
I need a bigger trailer.
