Experienced scrapper, new to electronic recycling.

Hey guys, new to this site but not to scrapping. Ive been scrapping for years which was taught to me by my dad. Im currently 21 and on unemployment. I know how easy it is to supplement my income with scrapping but then I read about electronic recycling.

Ive been scrapping computer boards as electric motors at my current yard and getting paid 30 cents a pound. I start reading on this site 2 days ago and it seems Ive been making a horrible mistake.

Ive read up on the grades of boards/chips and about how to contact buyers. Of course I would have to ship the boards to the buyers.

My main question is or concern would be, this seems to be too easy. seeing as how the payout for high grade motherboards is ~$4 per pound, that means the 8lbs Ive acquired in the past day is already worth $32 vs $2 at the scrap yard.

Of course shipping less bulky loads I could use USPS, but is pallet shipping cheap enough to ship large amounts?

Welcome to the forum. Look in the buyers and sellers tab I can tell you from experience that EWasted and ROK Recylers have some discounted freight programs im sure if there are others they will say as well.

Welcome to the forum. As one of the buyers here I can tell you that yes shipping on a pallet can be alot cheaper but then your looking at shipping 500 pounds or so at a time. USPS large flat rate boxes work good for sending whole hard drives and ram and cpu's to us buyers. Parcel post or fedex best deal for boxes under 70 pounds.

Shipping by pallet is definitely worth it. I know that if you go with Ewasted, you won't even have to pay anything upfront to ship it because they take it out of the final price. They also work with the shipping companies to get you a great rate. I just shipped a huge pallet weighing 675 lbs to him for $190 for an estimated $2k+ payout

And here's the review on another shipment, pretty cheap freight.
I just sent about 2500+lbs to *****, my first load. He is the longest standing and most reputable buyer on the forum, having literally hundreds of positive reviews. I can't find hardly any reviews on Specialty Metals Smelters & Refiners LLC. I, like most people, sold by the lb, this will clarify what I mean: Buying Electronic precious metal scrap! I took the freight route and, though I now know I have more, I put 2000lbs down and with me loading it the total cost was $233 and there are no other fees whatsoever.

Ok cool, this looks like a great way to make some good money. Any estimeates of how many Computer motherboards, lets say smaller socket 370 boards, it takes to make 100lbs? Im guessing around 60-65?

They usually weigh between 1 and 1 1/2 lbs each, so probably around 75 or so
