    types of certification?

just thought i would ask if anyone can give me types or diff certifications that are out there for the e-waste buisness. my small [side job] is quickly turning into a full time company in a very fast way. made a very valuable contact yesterday that is willing to work with me,but he needs some downstream info on where my material is going & he also needs me to have some certification of any type. any help would be great.thanks

I have also been looking into this. From what I find most people are getting R2 RIOS and NAID certification. R2/RIOS shows that you are properly disposing of every part of electronics. NAID is the National Association of Information Destruction. What part of NC are you in?

That's why you must start small and work your way up. Unless you have the funds right from the start. R2/RIOS is what they are most likely looking for when they ask for certification. If they ask for this just put them down to contact later when you can afford certification.

Hey Matt, I believe it was mostly a second thought of another thread subject, and am hoping maybe someone else more closely connected will recall what thread it was

    Matt,
I would check with your state and see if there is an association that you can join some have them and some dont. There are two certifications that are out there now and both are fairly expensive R2 and e-Steward. You can google both and come to realize fast that R2 if the lest expensive of the two and less intensive. There are other "commitment type" affiliations you can search for e-waste, Coalition for American Electronics Recycling Home is one you can look at, we sponser this one so im a little biast.

I know what you mean hammer. my biggest problem with going for the r2 is my facility, not the money. my buisness partner would throw 20k @ getting certified with no questions asked. i have spoken with mario about getting r2 & kinda know what it takes and what all is involved. im more interested in other types that i may not be aware of. im on the fence right now because i have a well paying career but my side buisness is growing leaps & bounds & i want all the certification i can get before i make the jump.

I currently know of one E-Waste buyer in NC that advertises as being R2 Rios Compliant. Which means they follow the guide lines of the certification, but they are not actually certified. I also understand that the company that is asking for certification probably will not except that as terms however, for Individual Consumers that may be enough. Well it might be enough IF you are actually following the standards\guidelines of said certification.

Which isn't really cheating people, but it's close, ha ha.

Anyway, glad you are going in the right direction to be compliant with or certified, even though you would be competition for me (hypothetically), the more E-waste companies that get certified in the industry, the more it actually makes the industry look good as a whole. Good Job!
