Shendog, you have hit the nail on the head sir.

"HOWEVER...there are people that have extra time and willing to make the approx $4 per monitor if they can work them quickly."

NO offense to the BIG E-waste boys and gals on this great forum but there are some of us, me included, who have lots of time on their hands and like to make a few extra $$s from time to time :-)
btw, I do not pay for them, as already mentioned here, most people are just too pleased to see them gone.

btw#2 My yard will take the stripped down monitors for 8-10c/lb. Presume they have an outlet for the lead etc content.

    I don't pay! I charge a $20.00 minimum removal " disposal" fee or $1 per screen inch.

well why not just let the trashman collect the tv just where it is, I learnt to scrap out a tv in 3 minutes,
anyone can do it so just leave the tv where it's at, scrap it out, put cover back on, screw it up and....
    next!

sure it may be awkward to scrap out every tv on the spot but nothing wrong with it if your a good scrapper, no mess.
I just did 5 at a block of flats, all big ones, piece of cake, i'm happy spending time breaking the boards down as it's all done then,
what's the point of taking a tv away from rubbish only to create your own rubbish?
nah, scrap on the spot, you need a cordless drill and side cutters, that's it, infact, keep a set in the car and anytime you see a handy
tv, stop, scrap and go like nothing happened.

Anyone else have any input on whether or not to deduct for cut-off cords on CRT monitors and TVs?
Why would you not deduct for cut-off cords? That is the super easy money on a TV or monitor. Guys buy computer power supplies at different pricing with and without wire. You need to be doing the same for monitors of all types and tv's too. It just makes sense.

^good point. NY does allow you to put them a the curb but you will get a nasty gram eventually if you put them out every pickup night. We also have free drop offs at the county dumps for ewaste mon-fri. I wouldn't pay for them though, after transporting, breakdown and then transporting the carcass to the dump you would be losing money in storage, labor and fuel cost. There is money in them if you curb shop them or get them for free with other stuff. As far as scrapping in front of someone's house I wouldn't do it. I think that if someone saw broken plastic and glass in front of their house they would be pissed. Not to say anyone here would leave a mess but I have been curb shopping and have seen them left that way. I pick up the whole thing if I have room and will take them with towers but I tell the person I do not pay for them and explain about the leaded glass and disposal problems. Now if it's gonna be a deal breaker on wether I get 25 plus towers with 10 monitors then I may have to pay for them but no more than $2 each and I start the negotiations at .25 each. Usually they take whatever they can get for them since they know no one wants them anymore and they don't have the room to sit on them.

There is money in CRT Tubes and if you pay 1.50-2.00 there is room for profit. I get almost 0.10 per pound for leaded glass tubes 0.05 per pound for the plastic case 0.28 per pound for the boards no to mention copper degaussing wire, copper yokes and other non-ferrous and ferrous material (steel liners and case sometimes is aluminum as well).
I pay 0.01 per pound all day long for mixed lots of tv/monitors, 0.02 for loads strictly CRT Monitors w/o wire and 0.03 per pound w/ wire delivered to me

I generally don't pay anything for a CRT, but if the person also has a lot of desirable scrap items that I want, I'll sometimes offer up to .50/crt to help close a deal.

Last time a scrapper tried taking apart a tV by my cans, I walked outside in my boxers and told them they can either take it whole or leave it, but if they break it down and leave the shell in front of my house Id call the cops.

If they are broken down my garbage man doesnt take them.....

carolina...where do you get 0.10/lb for leaded glass?

I would think if one company started paying for leaded glass, that would in turn make the other companies to start paying for them.

I wish someone would have a clear answer in CRT and TV scrap. Honestly have 200+ pallets of CRT monitors stacked about 6 feet high and another 50 pallets of just the tubes.

i replied to another thread you bumped about crt's. from a quick search it appears some company's are creating new cathode ray tubes from the old crt's. try to find one of these company's near you. perhaps they would come pick up.

Well actually, this thread is about deducting for cut cords. Or was. But it looks like it took a life of its own. Cest la vie.

i don't buy TV's but i would deduct 50% for missing cords. however if someone was bringing me 100's per month then maybe 25% deduction. whatever you work out with your suppliers, i would definitely not pay your regular rate for missing parts.
