    Computer wire

Hi, I dont post much but usually spend a lot of time reading. I am trying to get my third load ready to go to CFCS. I tried emailing and posted in another thread but dont have an exact answer. Has anyone sent wire along with there other stuff to one of the online buyers. The wire would be everything inside the computer, the power supply wire, Lan cables (or what to do with lan cables in general) server wires (the little orange wires that are inside a cabinet, there is usually alot of them). Does it matter, as long as its wire from electonics?\
the reason I ask my yard will call this low grade wire and pay .20 cents a lb, all the other insulated wire is considered high grade (any sort of power cord, just go from there) and that is .60 cents a lb. I know not the best, but I am treated good at this place, they treat my son good when he comes, etc. But I see online that the wire
is .85 cents a lb (cashforcomputerscrap) At that price it still concievable that even with the average shipping per lb of lets say .35 cents a lb, It stands to reason that I would still make money. Thanks ahead of time

If you can do better by shipping it, do it I've always found it helpful, while I was checking shipping rates of a particular box size, to fiddle around some with higher weights etc, to see how much more weight i could pack in there before the price changed. You'll be surprised sometimes, if you try this, how much more weight you can sometimes pack

My yard pays me .90 for what ever is in the box. How much are you taking in at a time? Any other local yards?

There are a couple of other yards in the area, just a little reluctant to try. I am trying to figure out which wire is he exactly purchasing. I mean it might be 20-40lbs (havent weighed it yet) of lan cables and stuff. or is there a market for those connector ends.

Its just the way they are around here too, low or a high grade wire, dealing with copper content, The other yard in the area is a little bit of a drive and would probably be a wash in gas price.

Yes, if I understand what lan cables are, cat 5/6 type cable with the "telephone" like connectors. Also the connectors on ribbon wire that connects to cd/dvd, hard drive, and floppy drives. There are others they need to be gold plated. They are listed as "gold connectors" on Ewasted' price list. If all elese fails send a pm to your buyer with photos of the connectors. Mike.

Yes low grade or #2 ins. or light. Different yards different names. Just low grade has less of a recovery amount. Im getting .90 at my yard for low grade(they call it #2 ins)so im getting 4.5 times more than you. I would look for another buyer if I was you

Cut the ends off and sell them as gold connectors at $2 per pound. The wire will go as #2-#3 insulated depending on the yard.

I got my answer, it was posted in the other thread, Its all wire with the exception of the the plastic wire in printers (flat plastic, I know what he is talking about). I am hoping this is great news. So if I can keep the weight of each box down I would stand to make some money on the transfer over selling locally. But this would just be on the thin stuff. I think with all the bigger power cords I am just going to strip everything. In a couple of tests that I did on some I think they were lamp cords or something. The gain was almost 2-3 times as much over not stripping. I made a little wire stipper out of some angle iron, a washer, a utility blade and a c-clamp. drilled some various size holes to run the wire through. Just gotta get the depth right on the stranded wire, cause it catches a little and and then you get little bits of wire everywhere.

I thinklarge flat rate boxes jammed packed with wire might be your best bet when it comes to shipping. up to 70 pounds will ship for $15

I don't think you can possibly put that much wire in a large flat rate box. I have to have a large tub crammed full to get 50 pounds and that would be several large flat rate boxes.
