Got a load of 30 desktops in today. 18 of them where dual core with pinless CPU's. Most were missing hard drives and ram but 6 of them are complete and boot up so I set them to the side. Also had some nice copper/alum heatsinks
The ones I broke down had SATA DVD RW, SATA DVD ROM and SATA power supplies. Is there a decent resell market for them or am i gonna be sitting on them for a while trying to sell 1 by 1.

I have sold sata power supplies and dual core processors on ebay recently for much more than scrap value.....If the item boots up and you can test it a little they will resale easily for above scrap.......I have parted out some of these machines to the tune of 3 or 4 times scrap value........I make my money scrapping but ebay has a nice stimulus package

It really depends are we talking pentium d's here or core 2 duo's on the computers? The sata dvd rom drives need to be burners to have any value. Power supplies with sata connectors and 350 watts or higher are worth reselling.

The computer itself had a voltage problem (mabye an easy fix) I didn't wanna fool with it but sold the power supply and processor and scrapped the restI was going to say that dual cores are bringing 100 bucks a pop up here at least. You tore down a lot of money.

Thats what i was getting at, if they are core 2 duo machines its worth getting them all up and running for resale purposes.

Not to sound dumb, but how do you figure out the specks of a processor chip?

They are pentium D machines except for one that is a small form factor core 2 duo but it is one of the running machines I set aside. I did try slapping hard drives and ram into some of the incomplete ones and none of them worked so I moved on. I dont have the time or space to run a recycling business and computer repair.
And the exact computers people are listing for $75 here and not selling them.

This machine powered up and ran I was just not satisfied with re-selling it due to this voltage problem.......When the computer boots up you can usually hit F12 or F2 and go to the setup and see the processor speed hard drive info and how much memory it has.......Mabye this helps

The pentium d's are a good value for the price, thats what i would recommend to someone that needs a desktop and is on a tight budget as you can build out a loaded one under $100. They are not worth the effort to get them going for resale purposes so its best to scrap out the non running ones. Put the running ones on craigslist at $60 and they wont last long. I would recommend finding a cpu buyer for the cpus though. My buyer pays $4-$10 on the standard pentium d's. The 950 and 960 go for quite a bit more so check for those.

Yes if you hit F2 when you see the first screen it will take you into setup and list the specs of the computer.
And $60 is what I planned to post the running ones at so if i sell 2 i made my money back and then some. I have room to sit on 6 for a couple days but not 18.
And are you saying 4-10 each or per lb.?
Green: Manufacture Year
Red: Manufacturer, CPU Type
Orange: Wafer thickness, Serial, Location Manufactured
Blue: CPU Speed, Cache, Front Side Bus
White: Unique CPU ID / Serial Number ( Batch number )
Unique Serial number of CPU + Board
So from the info on this CPU we can tell it made in 2005, it's a Core 2 Duo, using a 65nm wafer thickness, made in Malaysia, with a speed of 1.86GHZ and a 2MB Cache on a 1066Mhz front side buss.
This info has been on every intel CPU for the past 10 years at least. I know P2's had it and P1's in one way or another. Some might be harder to find as it's smaller

You should have no problem selling the sata dvd rw $10-$15 a piece and power supply if they are 350w or better especially if they are dell been getting about $30 a piece for those. if you group things you usually lose a little. just my experience
