Circut board "Silos".

Well, well, well. Again I come to you all with a question. What are the small, usually black, "silo" looking things that are on pretty much all circut boards? What are they called? What are they made of? Should I remove them or just leave them on? Perhaps one day, I will be the question answerer and the the asker. Many thanks as always and Happy Thanksgiving!

Are you talking about these? They are capacitors. Leave them on the board.

Look next to the component for a part number on the board. Sometimes it's hard to tell the difference between a capacitor and an inductor. If the part number on the board begins with a "C" it's a capacitor, while an "L" indicates an inductor. Sometimes the back of the board also has part numers as well, or even a symbol that indicates what it is.

Yep. An inductor contains copper and pays more.
