    bit of help here, guys?

i have a few questions here. i've done tons of searching and digging through the archives and have yet to find any answers, but if any of these have been conclusively covered, feel free to link me up. anywho, i'm new to e scrapping, i discovered it awhile ago, but have only recently been lucky enough to get any amount of volume to scrap. i know the basics of sorting, i have my gold fingers, finger cards, motherboards, logic, cd drive, cell phone, gold connectors, ic chips, pins, etc. but if its not one of them sorts of boards, i have no idea what to sort it as and have just been throwing them in a barrel (except for low grades, i strip the chips and transformers and toss em out). anywho, the first question is regarding these finger cards that are all gapped up. i run across a bunch that i can trim to where i have a bit of double sided, but some just have too many gaps. can i trim these fingers off and sell them as lower grade fingers? i sell one sided fingers from lcd's and gba games, so maybe these would go for around the same as the thicker gba ones? anywho, that may have not been too clear of a description, so i'm going to try to figure out how to do a picture. Also, as i said, no clue what a high grade board looks like thats not a motherboard, hdd, or cd board. What I mean is I don't know what a regular high grade board looks like. These other boards came from tvs. One from a dlp projector tv, the other from an lcd rear projection tv. They have gold connectors, but that's about it. Could someone point me at a thread that actually shows a thorough, complete way to grade boards? I read the sticky, and from what I remember it was ridiculously vague, and every other grading post i could find just showed how to do certain types of boards, such as motherboards, servers, telecom, etc. So if theres not a thread showing a general consensus on how to grade boards, could someone just say "Ello, this is how you decide whether it's a high grade or mid grade". Ok, now that I'm done with the essay, let's see about getting pics up ( i barely know how to work a computer, i don't own one that isn't being scrapped or that isnt having parts swapped to see if i can make it work).

edit: i'm busting my brain, i'm going to have to figure it out tomorrow when i come back to the in-law's. my wife's real tired and cranky, i gots to get her home and to bed. see yall tomorrow and thanks for any help

as a general rule boards showing gold are hi grade or better, those showing no , or little gold are mid grade or lower,

That's about all I can help you with right now, there is no show-all, tell-all link, some of it is just a matter of grading by IC chips and pin/fingers.
If you have a buyer in mind that your thinking about using then you might send them a email with pictures of the boards in question to get the answers.

I'd echo olddude's answer above but would add:
It's of little use to you for me or anyone, other than your buyer, to tell you what they'd call it.

It's illegal to throw your low grades in the trash. Even if it wasn't would you throw money into the trash can?

Who said anything about tossing them into the trash? They get tossed into my appliance shells and go to a scrapper friend of mine. My health doesnt allow me to do the heavy stuff anymore, but i don't let my leftovers go to waste. And the closest yard that buys e-scrap is over 100 miles away and they pay 25 cents a pound for motherboards and logic boards, a penny a pound for low grades. And there's no way I'm shipping all those low grade boards to someone. anyways, still messing with the photos, so hopefully soon I will be able to show what I'm talking about with the finger cards. Mech, could you please explain what you mean by grading by ic chips? Is it better to have more ic's and transistors and whatnot? The gold pins/fingers makes sense. when i come across those and theyre not to the point where i want to trim, i throw them in a box. Thank you for the answers guys. I now have plenty of scrap to ship, so i'm shopping for a buyer to ship to, and when i find said buyer i'll just have to ask what he takes as mid.

Question guys, would mother boards and high grade boards fall under the same category when i sell them? Im fairly new to e-scrap and i have been keeping the mother boards from PCs and the high grade boards from TV's and stuff in the same pile.

well all fingers can be sold for the base rate, but there are different grades of fingers that can be seperated out and sold at a higher rate. Thin pcb, double sided fingers are worth the most and can sell for $150 pound. I would sell all the thick stuff and all the single sided ones to a base rate buyer in the $70-$100 range.

It depends on your landfills rules, electronic scrap is not classified as hazardous waste to my landfill. And yes i do throw them in a trash can (its not money if you cant sell it).

We have no buyers in kc for low grade so i strip off all the copper and aluminum off, and mix a small amount of it into my shred loads when i haul shred. But i have so much low grade that most of it gets thrown away. I store as much as i can hoping for a buyer to start up in this area in the future, but i can only store so much.

no, it depends on the buyer rules. Just because you see gold on the board does not mean you will get motherboard price, alot of so called high grade boards ive seen dont even meet the criteria to be sold as chinese motherboards due to so little gold so there worth less than $2 per pound.

What high grade boards from tvs are you talking about? If you post picture we can grade it.

Patty, first of all what kind of tv's are you braking down? If they are tube (crt) type tv's there are no high grade boards in them, they are all low grade, flat screen tv's will have high grade and sould be the same as mother boards at around 3.50 to 4.00 per pound. Mother boards are a high grade but there are other boards that much higher grade than mother boards. For example memory boards should bring around 16.00 per pound, finger boards (pci cards) shound bring about 4.00 to 4.50. Then there are back plains and server boards and telecom boards these you should talk to your buyer about as far as what they are worth.

The high grade board you are referring to in flat screen tvs is worth around $10 per pound as-is. I classify them as green pcb. I process them for trimmings.
